Advocates for Human Potential, Inc., is seeking a Deputy Project Director for its Center for Training, Technical Assistance, and Consulting with senior management experience in public and non-profit sector behavioral health programs and systems of care. The staff member will serve as a Deputy Project Director for the California Department of State Hospitals (DSH) Incompetent to Stand Trial (IST) Infrastructure project for which AHP serves as the Administrative Entity and supports with technical assistance and training. The overarching project purpose is to expand residential infrastructure for those individuals deemed incompetent to stand trial who are being diverted from the justice or state hospital systems.

Unique job responsibilities and subject matter expertise:

The Deputy Project Director will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining systems to support a team of staff and subcontractors to serve as an Administrative Entity in support of the California Department of State Hospitals build out of a residential infrastructure to support the population of Californians incompetent to stand trial with a purpose of maintaining individuals in the least restrictive possible environment, as they pursue community-based rehabilitation.

The Deputy Project Director will work closely with state and local governments, nonprofit agencies, and private sector organizations that are involved with supporting the rehabilitation and diversion of the IST population throughout the state of California.

The project will provide significant. funding to support the IST infrastructure upgrade, for which the Deputy Project Director will be a key member of the project management team, supervising project staff, leading project meetings, and standing in for the Project Director, as needed, for key internal and external meetings. The Deputy Project Director will assist the Project Director in creating and implementing performance monitoring tools, creating reports for multiple internal and external audiences, engaging with the performance of grantees, developing tools and templates to improve efficiencies, and establishing timelines and communication protocols for all aspects of the project.

Qualifications required: Significant subject matter expertise in behavioral health systems and programs, especially higher levels of care for those with serious mental illness (SMI) or forensic mental health populations. Supervisory and management experience, preferably in public sector behavioral health initiatives. The successful candidate will possess experience managing teams of staff, overseeing projects and programs simultaneously, and collaborating with senior leaders in government and private sector, with demonstrated success implementing new or expanded projects or programs.

Education and Training

Candidates for this position should possess a master’s degree in social work, behavioral health, public health, or similar field. Professional experience may be substituted for the education requirement.

Professional Experience

We are seeking candidates with at least 8 years of progressively more responsible program management experience, which includes managing complex processes and procedures.

Salary Range

The salary range is between $120,000 and $130,000 depending on experience and education.

The base salary range above represents the low and high end of the AHP salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and may be high or low in the range based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, and education. The range listed is just one component of AHP’s total compensation package for employees.
