United for Respect (UFR) seeks a Deputy Director of Corporate Accountability to help supervise a small but ambitious team of strategic researchers and campaigners in support of UFR’s Walmart, Amazon, and Wall St. Accountability campaigns. The Deputy Director will help develop innovative and impactful strategies and tactics for UFR’s worker driven comprehensive campaigns.

Working with the Corporate Accountability Director, the Deputy Director of Corporate Accountability will help manage the Corporate Accountability department and conduct research in support of UFR’s policy and legislative work. The Deputy Director will help draft materials for a wide range of audiences, and work within a cross-departmental team composed of UFR member leaders, organizing, political, policy, digital and communications staff. The position reports to the Corporate Accountability Director.

The ideal candidate possesses a skills mix that includes corporate research, comprehensive campaigning, and staff management and development.

What You’ll be Doing:

As the Deputy Director of Corporate Accountability you will be responsible for:

Strategic Research

  • Strengthening corporate engagement at United for Respect, including strategies, tactics, messaging and legal compliance

  • Developing and maintaining partnerships with external allies, academics, think tanks, etc. and contractors in support of campaign goals

  • Conducting industry analysis including fundraising activity and trends;

  • Conducting individual, policy and corporate research; at times working in close collaboration with member-leaders and alliance partners.

  • Providing research support for campaign actions, press events and testimony for public hearings

Comprehensive Campaigning

  • Working in partnership with the organizing department and Deputy Organizing Directors

  • Developing and executing campaign strategy and tactics in support of UFR campaign and organizational goals

  • Supporting the development of short and long-term campaign planning

Legal Oversight and Administration

  • Partnering with United for Respect legal team to maintain legal compliance and standards for UFR’s corporate accountability work

  • Developing proactive legal strategies to weave into our worker driven comprehensive campaigns

  • Coordinating with external allies for legal support

Supervision & Leadership

  • Supervising and training of members of the Corporate Accountability team, including conducting regular performance reviews and creating staff development plans

  • Creating long-term department work plans to guide the work of the Corporate Accountability team

You’ll Be A Great Fit If You Have:

  • Minimum 10 years of doing corporate accountability or comprehensive campaign research and campaigning

  • Experience as an assistant director, deputy director, or an equivalent position.

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in project management and leading teams.

  • Excellent writing and communication skills and experience preparing reports and presentations for diverse audiences.

  • The ability to gracefully manage and prioritize dozens of moving pieces, competing deadlines and goals.

  • A passion for research with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences.

  • A love for details, but you’re also comfortable talking strategy and big picture.

  • A demonstrated commitment to meeting high standards and a history of getting things done even in the face of obstacles as well as the ability to juggle multiple projects at a time and work in a fast-paced environment

  • Ambition, drive, energy, and the ability to work flexible and long hours when necessary.

  • The ability to build strong relationships with a diverse set of stakeholders, including partner organizations, organizers, researchers, and member leaders.

  • A commitment to economic and social justice. You understand and can articulate issues facing communities of color, women, or low-and moderate-income families and can address this in your letter of interest

  • Demonstrated commitment to economic and social justice and worker or community leadership

Salary

Salary Range: $95,000 to $105,000 salary depending on experience and geography.

Competitive benefits package provided for full-time employees and eligible dependents, including health, dental, vision, and prescription coverage and 401k. Ability to travel is a must.
