Montgomery County – Norristown Public Library (MCNPL) is in search of an Adult Programs and Outreach Department head. This position supervises the Adult Programs & Outreach Department by directing the work of staff and volunteers to provide both on-site and off-site library services, programs, and outreach for the young adult (ages 12+) and adult service populations. The Department Head also participates in collection development for young adults and adults, establishes partnerships with local schools, local governments, and community organizations, and publicizes the department’s activities and collections. Other duties include performing assigned shifts as a facility Manager on Duty (MOD).

Qualifications:

· Librarian I: Master’s Degree in Library Science and Certification as Professional Librarian by PA Bureau of Teacher Certification or Provisional Librarian; Bachelor’s Degree and Certification as Provisional Librarian by PA Bureau of Teacher Certification within 18 months of hire date.

· 2-5 years public library experience working with young adults & adults, including 1 to 2 years at the supervisory level.

· Ability to orient and direct others in the application of professional methods for providing public library services, programming, and outreach to young adult & adult populations.

· Excellent spoken and written communication skills.

· Must have a valid driver's license and access to own vehicle.

· Must be able to travel to other locations to perform work, and/or attend work-related meetings, workshops or conferences.

· Community outreach experience preferred.

· Grant writing experience preferred.

· Bilingual English/Spanish desired.

Potential employment is contingent upon the submission of the results of the following background checks: PA State Police Criminal History, PA Child Abuse History Clearance, and FBI Criminal Background Check. Completion of PA State Mandated Reporter Training within 30 days of hire is also required.
