Job Description

Debt Specialist IV minimizes pre- and post-term losses or maximizes recoveries through resolution of insurance issues, redemption matters, contract concerns, asset recovery, and bankruptcy matters.

Depth & Scope

Requires specialized expertise and performs multiple and/or diverse tasks that are highly complex
Requires a comprehensive understanding of a range of product and services, processes, procedures, systems and concepts within their own area of specialty
Resolves problems and identifies the most appropriate solution
Implements procedures and approaches to complete work
Requires tact to exchange ideas and information in a concise and logical way; role models handling of sensitive information and resolution of exceptions
Adheres to established quality standards for all work performed
Proven knowledge and experience in effective repossession, redemption, and remarketing regulations, techniques and practices
Detailed knowledge of loan agreements and security agreements
Knowledge of specific regulations in various states in which Company does business
May handle any type of repossessed collateral
Leverages strong negotiation, influence, and persuasion skills coupled with a strong knowledge of the full array of collection/recovery methods and systems
Maintains a general knowledge of collection/recovery industry practices and trends to recover or minimize losses to each account
Adheres to established quality standards for all work performed
Understands and complies with regulatory requirements in all jurisdictions where repossession activities are taking place for portfolio being managed

Job Requirements

Education & Experience:

2 year degree or progressive work experience required
3+ years related experience required
Expert at telephonic communication required
Demonstrated excellent skills with full range of loss prevention and loss recovery techniques
Ability to organize, prioritize and manage a large workload for optimum efficiency
Proven discipline to exhaust every available resource to minimize pre- or post-term losses/recoveries
Broad knowledge of collections policies and procedures and other relevant banking operations experience is required
Extensive negotiation and experience to deal with most difficult accounts with customer third party vendors, or TDAF vendors.
Demonstrated attention to detail and the ability to prioritize workload to meet department objectives efficiently
Writing ability to clearly document calls
Proven ability to work cooperatively with peers and managers to bring accounts to favorable resolution while building a positive work environment
PC skills proficiency

Customer Accountabilities:


Understands and supports the Bank's Customer Service Strategy
Considers the impact of decisions on the well-being of TD, its customers and stakeholders
Models quality service delivery at every customer interaction
Works with customers or agents of customers to resolve delinquency of repossessed loans
Delivers on brand promise of Legendary Customer service to all customers
Assists customers of repossessed collateral through the redemption and or remarketing process
Conveys appropriate messages to customers and vendors telephonically and through written correspondence where appropriate
Documents the progress made to each account thoroughly and accurately as it progresses through pre- and post-term processes
Enforces service level agreements with third party vendors; ensures that third party vendors consistently meet quality standards and live up to brand promise by delivering same legendary customer experience.
Evaluates and researches accounts thoroughly, obtaining information from previous collection efforts, public records, vendor reports, databases, and other appropriate sources using this data to determine the best approach to resolve each account.
Shareholder Accountabilities:

Complies with regulatory requirements in all jurisdictions where repossession activities are taking place for portfolio being managed
