    Overview

    Battle Creek Central High School offers students the Career Academies experience. The Career Academies experience provides students opportunities to explore their interests while developing the skills necessary to become career, college, and career ready. The Dean of Students will oversee the MTSS processes that include components that support students in academics, social emotional well-being, and behavior. The Dean of Students will collaborate and support the BCCHS interdisciplinary teams to support the implementation of the Career Academies model. The Dean of Students will participate as a member of the Building Leadership Team and will provide the team with data and lead an analysis of that data to inform school-wide systems and structures. The Dean of Students counsels students to acknowledge and manage responsible personal conduct. The Dean of Students reports directly to the Executive Principal.

    The primary responsibilities of the Dean of Students:

    • Oversees school wide MTSS processes
    • Collaborate daily with Behavior Interventionist, Resilience Coach, BearCat Coaches, and Interdisciplinary Teams to support the implementation of the Academy model.
    • Monitor on-track/off-track for graduation data and update the Building Leadership Team
    • Partner with Career Academy Counselors to coordinate and monitor academic interventions.
    • Identify and support students struggling with poor attendance and disciplinary infractions.
    • Monitors implementation of behavior support, Trauma Informed Schools, Restorative Practices, Positive School Experience using a specific data analysis protocol
    • Helps resolves problems that impede student learning
    • Communicates progress focused on using specific data and data analysis protocols
    • Work collaboratively with student support teams and administration to plan individual, school and/or system-wide programs to promote a positive and caring school culture for students and teachers
    • Evaluate effectiveness of programs and systems focused on improving school climate and culture
    • Act in accordance with federal, state, and local laws, statutes, and/or policies that relate to students and families, and consult with school personnel to ensure compliance in those areas.
    • Any other tasks designated by building administration

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Master’s degree in Educational Leadership or related field
    • Successful experiences working in K-12 education for at least 5 years
    • Successful experience with mentoring, coaching, supervising, or leading individual adults or teams of adults
    • Ability to use technology to collect, organize, analyze, and communicate pertinent data

    Desired Qualifications

    • Demonstrated record of success with serving at risk youth, preferably in an urban setting
    • Restorative Practices training
    • Experience with implementing Trauma Informed Practices
    • Strong oral and written communication skills; integrity and clarity in all communications and interactions
    • Ability to think creatively and with innovation
    • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, achievement-oriented environment
    • Commitment to the success of all BCPS students
    • Willingness to go above and beyond to contribute to the success of a dynamic team committed to a new future for urban education
