The Albert C. Wiltshire Employment Center recruits qualified candidates for positions within the Brooklyn Navy Yard, a 300-acre industrial park housing over 400+ businesses within the manufacturing, food, media, technology, and creative fields.

A Brooklyn Navy Yard-based green roof farming business is seeking a part-time temporary Event Crew to set up, execute, and break down events. In addition, the event crew will support Event Captains on day-of event tasks, assist with vendor and rental load-in and load-out, operating building freight elevator, welcome guests, answering questions about the company, and book, facilitate, and help host private eveents at our Sunset Park farm.

SCHEDULE:

Candidates should be able to commit to a partial season on the farm, from approximately late April-early November, ranging from 15-25 hours/week, with opportunities to work more as the season ramps up during late Summer through early Fall.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Set up, execute, and break down events; support Event Captains on day-of event tasks
  • Assist with vendor and rental load-in and load-out, operating building freight elevator
  • Welcome guests, answering questions about the farm, and represent the company with courteousness and respect, helping to create a welcoming environment for all
  • Maintain a professional, helpful presence and enforce farm policies firmly but kindly
  • Undertake facilities-related tasks such as trash removal, clean up, furniture moving, and other miscellaneous but important tasks; help support positive and smooth vendor operations on-site
  • Communicate and work closely with the Programming & Events team, and collaborate with team members across other departments
  • Support other Crew members with tasks and responsibilities, contributing to a positive, respectful, and enjoyable work environment
  • Potential for leading farm tours if candidate demonstrates interest and talent in this area
  • Potential for facilities and farming-related work if candidate demonstrates interest and talent in this area, as such work is available

OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE HAS MANY OF THE QUALIFICATIONS BELOW:

  • Is energetic, eager to learn new skills, and has a great work ethic; some prior service experience preferred
  • Is a doer: upon finishing a task, will immediately begin undertaking another
  • Values teamwork, and readily jumps in to help fellow Event Crew and the Event Captains
  • Is an excellent communicator
  • Has some knowledge of, or is passionate about, local and sustainable food and beverage
  • Loves working outdoors in any weather
  • Can take direction and is a team player
  • Can manage and balance their time effectively; is punctual
  • Can adapt and problem solve when needed
  • Can stand for long periods of time, lift and move furniture (up to 50 pounds)
  • Must be available to work nights and weekends
  • Ability to speak Spanish a plus, though not required
