Counselor (HSE/GED) Job at Essential Associates
ALE serves adult learners from diverse backgrounds who are earning their High School Equivalency Diploma (HSE). We provide: 1) instruction in social studies (integrating reading and writing), math, and science, 2) counseling and case management services, and 3) GED testing for the award of the HSE.
The counselor will work with learners by identifying challenges that they may face as they work toward their educational goals. The counselor will provide career counseling, crisis intervention, outreach, and referrals to wrap-around services to adult learners who are earning their HSE.
Responsibilities
- Oversee case management and career counseling for learners attending ALE.
- Guide learners in the development of their education and career goals. Develop individual service plans to support learners in meeting those goals.
- Complete intake and assessments.
- Maintain retention through regular meetings and outreach.
- Provide crisis intervention, as needed.
- Keep up-to-date case notes that document learners’ goals, progress, and outcomes in the ASISTS database.
- Conduct orientation workshops.
- Conduct job readiness workshops in subjects including resume writing, cover letter writing, or interview preparation.
- Assist learners with employment, internship, and college applications.
- Organize and facilitate events including jobs fairs, college fairs, and/or career panels.
- Collaborate with teachers and counselors in supporting learners through challenges that they face while working toward their educational goals.
- Perform other duties, as assigned.
Requirements
- BA Required
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Language skills in Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, and/or Arabic is a plus.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $40,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
Schedule:
- Monday to Friday
