JOB DESCRIPTION

Title: Coordinator of Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion File: 145
Reports to: Superintendent
Employment Status: Part-Time (95 days)
Salary: $25,000 to $35,000 including competitive benefits package

Minimum Qualifications

Three (3) years of related experience in K-12, higher education or nonprofit
Must have a social science grounding in diversity, equity and inclusion, including foundational literature
of key DEI theoretical frameworks and knowledge of current trends and issues related to equity and
inclusion
Ability to work with internal and external stakeholders from a variety of disciplines and varying levels of
training
Embraces diversity and exhibits cultural proficiency
Three (3) years of experience preferred in a multicultural, multiethnic school/community
environment, preferably as a teacher, school administrator, or social worker
Excellent writing skills
Strong interpersonal/human relations skills
Meet all health requirements mandated by law
Satisfactory completion of the BCI and FBI background check
Possession of a valid motor vehicle license

Position Summary:

Provide strategic data-driven leadership and advocacy for district equity initiatives and toward
widespread community engagement
Engage staff, families, and students in building a welcoming and inclusive culture
Design training initiatives for students, families, and staff on intercultural awareness, racial, ethnic and
religious diversity, gender identification, disability, sexual orientation, and other topics designed to
increase awareness and support of equity and inclusion, as well as compliance with applicable laws
Design, propose, and implement programs/events/initiatives to increase community members’ sense of
belonging
Assist teachers in diversifying their curriculum and instructional practices for the benefit of all students
Promote the district’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion through interactions with individuals,
school and community organizations, outside agencies and local businesses
Develop and implement programming and events that promote intercultural awareness, equality and
inclusion
Lead the design and facilitation of the building diversity, equity and inclusion committees

Job Responsibilities & Duties
Community/Parents

Build rapport and develop relationships with many district families and community
organizations
Develop and implement training to promote cultural understanding and
competency and a climate of equity and inclusion
Provide support to district and school-based support organizations, community,
staff and/or student committees with various diversity and community engagement
initiatives
Serve as a liaison between underrepresented communities and the district
Promote the district’s commitment to equity and inclusion through interaction with
individuals and agencies inside and outside the district
Stay abreast of advances in the areas of equity, inclusion and community engagement
Students
Work collaboratively with building principals to develop and implement
programming and events that promote intercultural awareness
Plan and coordinate in, and out of school discussions, conversations, presentations,
assemblies, festivals, etc. to educate staff, students and families about the
importance of individual identity as well as encouraging acceptance and unity
Identify and promote opportunities for students to participate in events/internships/programs in fields
where they are underrepresented Staff
Identify cross-cultural awareness training opportunities for staff and coordinate
and/or conduct such training where appropriate
Work collaboratively with the Director of Academic Affairs to evaluate and monitor
the teachers’ curriculum and instructional practices to promote a diversity of
viewpoints/historical events/cultures/people, as well as a diversity of approaches attuned to the needs
of students
Work collaboratively with administrators and teachers to support the use of culturally
relevant and inclusive pedagogy and practice
Work with the Director of Personnel to develop recruitment and retention
strategies for teachers from underrepresented groups
Recommend policies, procedures and/or actions for the purpose of meeting the district’s goals around
equity, inclusion and community engagement
Collaborate with district administrators to create, implement and monitor programs
designed to raise awareness of implicit bias and ensure fair and equitable treatment of
students
In collaboration with administrators, help develop/implement an onboarding process for
new staff
Review data with teachers and administrators and work together to identify and develop
strategies to close achievement gaps and support equity and inclusion

Balancing, bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching, and standing.
Exposure to adverse weather conditions and temperature extremes.
Exposure to blood-borne pathogens and communicable diseases.
Interacting with aggressive, disruptive, and/or unruly individuals.
Lifting, carrying, and moving work-related supplies/equipment.
Operating and/or riding in a vehicle.
Performing repetitive tasks for prolonged periods.
Traveling to meetings and work assignments.

Job performance is evaluated according to policy provisions and contractual agreements adopted by the Berea
City School District Board of Education.
