Job Purpose:

MHA is looking for an experienced Controller to lead the accounting and operations function, partner closely with our senior leadership team, and play a significant role in MHA’s long-term growth. As the Controller, you will ensure that MHA has the systems, people, and procedures in place to support an effective internal controls implementation and external financial audits process for planned growth of the business. You will lead and support 4 direct reports with oversight of their direct reports, a total team of 8 Associates.

Controller manages all activities in the general ledger, accounts payable/receivable function. Ensures timely payments of vendor invoices and expense vouchers and maintains accurate records and metrics. Manages monthly close and close process. Manage team of associates in the day-to-day performance of their jobs.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop accounting capabilities including revenue accounting, general ledger, inventory, fixed assets, revenue/accounts receivable, payroll, and accounts payable
  • Oversee monthly close process and ensure timely and accurate completion of all tasks with attention to reporting, and operating expense accruals as well as monthly trial balance and quarterly account reconciliations
  • Coordinate and lead the annual audit process to ensure both timely completion and accuracy
  • Oversee end-to-end accounts payable, trade and non-trade
  • Provide expertise on financial reporting, expense processes, and compliance matters
  • Develop and maintain a best in practice internal control environment and collaborate across the organization for effective adherence of controls
  • Assessing, articulating, and quantifying potential financial, regulatory, and operational risks associated with business growth and accounting processes.
  • Establish and maintain formal accounting policies, practices, and procedures to ensure US GAAP compliance
  • Implement continuous improvement opportunities in all areas of responsibility
  • Influence collaboration and communication across all departments
  • Leading financial system implementations or integrations when necessary

Minimum Qualifications & Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, management, or a related field,
  • CPA license required, MBA a plus
  • Ownership across a variety of accounting functions (GL, fixed assets, revenue, AP/AR, payroll, as a Controller in a public health or health technology company; Big 4 Audit firm experience ideal
  • Experience leading the relationship with external auditors
  • Strong GAAP, analytical, technical accounting, and financial reporting technical skills
  • Hands-on skill in design and implementation of policies and procedures
  • Demonstrated ability to influence change with senior leadership, manage complex problems and present recommendations and findings in a clear, concise format
  • Leads with active listening and coaching, not afraid to ‘get in the weeds’, and fosters an inclusive team culture
  • Track record of assessing and implementing change to current departmental practices and protocols
  • NetSuite experience is REQUIRED
  • Experience with Adapative plus
  • Proficient in all Microsoft office, Advanced proficiency in MS Excel
