The property includes a 100,000 square foot clubhouse with indoor and outdoor dining, two-acre poolscape with bistro, 38,000 square foot LEED certified Moonstone Spa & Fitness Center with café, 23 tennis and 4 pickleball courts, two signature golf courses that are GEO Certified and Audubon Sanctuary Certified which includes the famed Old Course that has been host to the PGA tour Champions season opener.

Position Summary

Broken Sound Club is looking for a valued team member to deliver exceptional service to a welcoming membership. This position manages the daily accounting operations in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and requires exceptional people skills, problem solving, and willingness to work with others toward the common good of both the member and the Club. This position performs all aspects of balance sheet reconciliation, bank reconciliation, membership sales processing as well as supervises the staffing, scheduling, training, and professional development of department members. In addition, this position assists the Director of Finance on all strategic matters relating to budget management, forecasting needs, and internal controls. Develop policies to control and coordinate accounting, auditing, budgets, and related activities and records; develop, establish and administer procedures and systems pertaining to financial matters. Prepare financial statements, forecasts, and analyses for all administrative and managerial functions.

Essential Duties and Responsibility

  • Assist to formulate, receive, and recommend policy proposals relating to accounting and auditing, the budget, revenue, and cost control procedures.
  • Assist to prepare the monthly trial balance and resulting financial statements for the club, including the income statement, balance sheet and statement of changes in financial condition, along with required supporting schedules and other data necessary for financial reports and records.
  • Membership accounting responsibility. Records all membership sales, tracks all equity refunds, and has knowledge of all membership policies and programs.
  • Manage and conduct internal auditing programs to help ensure that records are accurately maintained and that established policies and practices are satisfactorily and consistently followed.
  • Analyze financial information, monitors budgeted versus actual expenditures and advises Director of Finance about variances and their potential causes; recommends corrective actions to help assure that budget goals are met.
  • Direct, may participate in and verify the taking of inventories for beverages, food, supplies, equipment, furnishings, Tennis & Golf Pro Shops as well, and other Club assets.
  • Complete reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts monthly including but not limited to receivables, payables, bank, payroll, and other assets, liability, and equity accounts.
  • Prepare accounting reports as necessary and appropriate for dissemination to the board of directors, executive committee, and other club committees.
  • Train, supervise, schedule, and evaluate accounting staff.
  • Oversee member billing and collection procedures.
  • Oversight of new vendor set up, credit application, 1099 reporting and contract labor payouts.
  • Manage assigned projects as they relate to the department and club’s needs.
  • Safeguard all funds in bank accounts; assure that revenues are properly and correctly deposited and supervise the drawing of all checks.
  • Plan professional development and training activities for staff.

Education and Experience

· Bachelor’s degree in accounting preferred or four years of related experience and/or training in the field of membership-based organization.

· Working knowledge of Club accounting software.

· Ability to read, write, and speak English proficiently to perform duties of the job.

· Proficiency with computer skills including Windows and Microsoft Office applications with a strong emphasis in excel knowledge.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

· Full-time onsite position.

· Must be able to reach, bend, stoop, stand, and lift to 40 pounds.

· Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time.

· Moderate noise level in work environment.

· Extensive use of computer keypad with hands and fingers.
