JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for the continuous improvement, implementation and overseeing Lean and Safety initiatives to improve our safety environment, increase production, visual workplace and improve the quality to better service our customers, keeping our workforce safe and delivering training employees. Additionally, this position is responsible for the update, development, and implementation of improvement initiatives utilizing a value-stream focus. This role will inherently support continuous improvement by working with the other core manufacturing departments such as Operations, Quality Assurance, Maintenance, Materials and work with all levels to identify areas of opportunity.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Comply with Boral Safety Policies and Procedures
  • In depth understanding and application of the BORAL Safety Consequences Policy
  • Work closely with core management group to ensure successful transition and implementation
  • Develop & implement improvement initiatives leading to productivity improvements through deployment of methodologies such as SMED events, Error Proofing, KAIZEN & KATA events, and others as appropriate
  • Work with other core operating departments to assist in the continuous improvement processes. These efforts would include initiatives such as maintenance systems improvement, TS 16949 certification, inventory reduction efforts, and on-going operating systems development.
  • Develop & facilitate improved shop floor relationships that encourage increased shop floor participation in the overall improvement process, to include round table discussions, improvement teams, individual impact, and other approaches as appropriate
  • Follow the direction of leadership and Process Engineer assisting in the development of strategic plans to further the performance of the business utilizing continuous improvement methods
  • Regular attendance, timeliness and scheduling flexibility

  • Follow up and audit project progress to ensure results are achieved and sustained
  • Resolve implementation issues, creating and managing implementation communication processes, and ensuring consistency of implemented processes and programs throughout the facility
  • Coordinate with project leaders and Project Chairs to eliminate barriers
  • Assist Staff Leadership Team in any strategic initiative that will help in compliance to standards, implementing new systems, and designing creative solutions that will continuously improve the plant
  • Basic Computer skills, advanced skills will be developed
  • Ability to be Proficient in Microsoft Office suite within 12 months

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

This employee should have the following:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 1 - 2 years' experience in a relevant field

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

This employee should possess the ability to:

  • Ability to work split shift (to train off shifts on safety concerns and changes)
  • Ability to sit and work at a computer for up to 8 hours per day
  • Must have good clarity of hearing and speech
  • Must have the physical ability to walk, stand and sit for periods of time
  • Ability to travel by car for several hours at a time to other facilities
  • Ability to kneel, crouch, walk or crawl
  • Must be able to occasionally climb, balance or smell
  • Must tolerate working environment with inside ambient temperatures reaching 100+ degrees
  • Some travel will be required (15%-30%)
  • Prolong sitting or in stationary position
  • Wear all required personal protective equipment (hearing, vision and hardhat protection)
  • Ability to move or traverse about the facilities
  • Ascend/descend stairs or ladders
  • Ability to work around dust, chemicals, and other substances, and in various environmental conditions
  • Exposure to external and internal temperature fluctuations
  • Exposure to sounds or constant noise levels that maybe uncomfortable above 85 decibels
  • Ability to stand for up to 12 hours performing shift work or in a stationary position
  • Perform repetitive movements
  • Bend or twist
  • Handle, control or feel objects, tools or controls
  • Able to lift/move up to 50 pounds
