  • Excellent, proven written communications and editing skills and a strong storyteller.
  • Write and edit a high volume of TXST Newsroom articles that cover a wide range of topics including research, student achievements, faculty awards & accolades, campus life, etc.
  • Write and edit a high volume of content for additional channels managed by University Communications & PR, including social media, newsletters, scripts, reports, talking points, university statements, etc. A partial list of outreach channels that this position will serve can be found at this link: https://news.txst.edu/about/communications.html.
  • Interview students, faculty, staff, and alumni for articles, quotes, and university messages.
  • Build relationships with key personnel across the university to identify & internalize who the subject matter experts are in various fields and topics – in order to assist the Media Relations team to plan media pitches and responsive statements.
  • Ability to plan and manage multiple, time-sensitive communication projects.
  • Able to provide high-quality service to the university community through writing/editing; providing excellent service to internal stakeholders with a “customer service” attitude.
  • Experience in, and comfort with, a wide range of writing styles and types – including press releases, media advisories, feature stories, short blurbs or story summaries for e-newsletters, photo essays and image captions, writing for social media and web, etc.
  • Assist the UComm/PR team to identify interesting story leads/tips from across the university, and help move those ideas through to completion and publication on the department’s outreach channels.
  • Coordinate the production of the TXST magazine Hillviews which includes one print and two digital issues each year.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.

Job Description
This key position on the University Communications & PR team creates content and stories that tell the world about the game-changing education, research, and student experiences at TXST. The Content Writer/Editor will conceptualize, write, and proofread a variety of messaging and content including but not limited to press releases, feature stories, digital newsletters, emails, reports, speeches, talking points, website copy, and social media posts. The position also coordinates one print issue and two digital issues annually of HIllviews, the university’s magazine.
