About the Position

Under the direction of the program manager, plan and implement health education, outreach and linkage to mental health services in the community of Pajaro. This position is key to empowering community members to take charge of their mental and physical health and promote community wellbeing. This position will be focused on helping link the community to social support services, recovery resources and motivating community members to recognize mental health issues in their families and communities.

Pajaro Valley Prevention & Student Assistance, Inc (PVPSA) has been the leader of youth prevention, intervention, and family support services in the greater Pajaro Valley. We believe that every young person in our community should have the opportunity to achieve their dreams. We are committed to helping them identify those dreams and support them in that quest. Our mission is to improve the quality of life of students and families in the Pajaro Valley by providing health education, prevention services, mental health services, and by advocating for public policies that protect the health of our community.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participate in health and community empowerment educational trainings.

  • Provide case management and track an individuals’ progress towards meeting healthier goals, as well as connecting them to needed resources.

  • Conduct outreach, presentations, and inform community of services offered by the agency and community partners.

  • Advocate for individual and community needs with community providers.

  • Assist community members with enrollment and navigation into services and supports as needed.

  • Conduct planning and implementation activities related to grant funded deliverables associated with community engagement and participation.

  • Support community outreach events as needed.


Employment Standards

  • Knowledge of culturally effective and sensitive community engagement strategies

  • Knowledge of community needs, particularly from underserved and vulnerable communities

  • Knowledge of COVID-19 safety measures.

  • Knowledge of available community resources

  • Already vaccinated or willing to receive the COVID-19 vaccine prior to start date.


Ability to:

  • Work flexible hours, in the evenings and weekends as needed.

  • Speak bilingually: English and Spanish, ability to speak an Indigenous language is a plus.

  • Get to and from remote areas of the community

  • Communicate effectively with community members.

  • Utilize a computer for basic functions.

  • Work as a team and perform essential functions of this role.

  • Active listening skills, including the ability to summarize or articulate key points.

  • Give, receive, and incorporate constructive feedback.


Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, talk, hear, use hands, handle, feel or operation objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. Able to lift 30 pound box and carry it 100 feet; push a hand truck/dolly with a load of 15 pounds; access items on shelves in flies located 0-60 inches above the floor.


Salary and Benefits:

Hourly Range: $20.50-$23.25 based on experience.

Employees are eligible for health benefits (medical, dental, vision) and other related fringe benefits if working full time; some benefits may be prorated for individuals working less than a 40 hour weekly schedule.
