Location:
This position will be primary located in La Casa, DC ; but need to be able to move between locations as needed. This position will work remotely and on-site, as needed.

Classification:
This is a non-Exempt/Hourly position

Synopsis:
This position will work within the Community Health Action Department to support the recruitment interventions targeting Latino immigrants, including young Latina Transgender Women (YLTG) and young Latino Men Who Have Sex with Men (YLMSM) living in the Washington DC Metropolitan area, to reduce the incidence of HIV and to promote health-related topics within the community.


Qualifications:
Required Education and Experience:

  • Minimum High School diploma, or GED, or an equivalent three-year combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills may be obtained.
  • Knowledge of Latino immigrant community in DC Metro Area, including Prince George County and Montgomery County in Maryland, and ability to work with all segments of the community.
  • One year minimum experience working in HIV prevention/health promotion field, and/or with service delivery with young adults; experience working with sexual minority young adults and high schools/ colleges settings.
  • One year of experience working/using social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram).

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • One year minimum experience with HIV Counseling, Testing & Referral activities.
  • One year minimum experience implementing recruitment strategies for HIV prevention, health promotion and prevention for People Living with HIV interventions.
  • One year minimum experience facilitating small-group interventions.
  • One year minimum experience advocating for individuals and community needs and building individual and community capacity.
  • One year minimum experience with program implementation, including executing work plans.

Required Skills/Abilities/Certifications/Licenses:

  • Excellent oral and writing communication skills in Spanish.
  • Basic oral and writing communication skills in English.
  • High motivation to advocate for sexual and racial minorities, youth, people living with HIV, and LGBTQ communities’ rights.
  • Strong ethical core.
  • Ability to implement a health education social media strategy.
  • Ability to encourage greater social media participation.
  • Proficiency with Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and other social media platforms.
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Office (Word, Power Point, Outlook, Excel).
  • Interpersonal and problem-solving skills, detail oriented, teamwork-oriented, self-starter, highly organized.

Preferred Skills/Abilities/Certifications/Licenses:

  • DC, MD, or VA Community Health Worker Certification.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide bilingual HIV & STI counseling, testing & referral services at La Clinica' sites, and at off-site testing events such as health fairs, schools, night clubs, and other alternative venues, following the program guidelines and protocols, including but not limited to:
    • Provide pre & post-test counseling to conduct further risk reduction and supportive counseling and referrals for early medical intervention.
    • Provide referrals and accompaniment to clients following La Clinica’s guidelines and procedures, including to the newly diagnosed HIV positives.
    • Implement all CTR protocols and guidelines, including verification that sites have private space, materials in both English and Spanish, Rapid Test technology capabilities, condoms, hazard trash disposal, and other logistics.
    • Participate in periodic team meetings with other HIV testers to evaluate cases and protocols.
    • Update referral information for services, such as STI clinics, health centers, and other in coordination with other departments/units at La Clinica.
    • Implement program’s interventions (such as Personalized Cognitive Counseling, ECHO, Promise, among others) targeting individuals at high-risk for HIV and substance use.
    • Conduct periodic recruitment strategies for re-testing for HIV, such as phone calling, texting, and social media messaging.
    • Data collections and reporting related to CTR services.
  • Support to Program Navigation services ensuring client retention, including:
    • Assist clients living with HIV to enter care as needed, including: (I) make appointments with medical site, (2) provide or arrange for interpretation in accordance with LCDP protocols (3) facilitate access to transportation, and (4) link clients to other services as needed.
    • Assist clients who are lost to care to re-enter care as needed, including: (I) identification of the clients for recapture per quarter, (2) contacting client, (3) make appointments with medical site, (4) provide or arrange for interpretation in accordance with LCDP protocols, (5) facilitate access to transportation, (6) link clients to other services as needed, and (7) monitoring and evaluation of recapture process and client outcomes.
    • Assist the Program Health Educator & Navigators to identify affected family, friends and/or partners and provide support services, including: (I) assessment of needs, (2) education and orientation, (3) emotional support, and (4) linkage to support services.
    • Maintain client records and other data bases with client information assuring completeness, filing, neatness, confidentiality, and documentation.
  • Support community outreach efforts, including:
    • Identify potential areas for engaging in outreach events (community mapping).
    • Assist the implementation of community outreach events targeting individuals at high-risk for HIV and gathering in alternative venues such as parks, night clubs, commercial areas, and other social venues.
    • Conduct social media activities on Facebook and other sites.
    • Assist in the coordination of other outreach activities in coordination with the Program manager and the program coordinator.
    • Advocate for individual and community needs building individual and community capacity.
    • Support program health promoters and participants by attending community forums, coalition meetings, hearings, and other community events.
    • Collaborate with participatory research activities, including surveys development, focus group implementation and context analysis and discussions.
    • Participate in periodic program team meetings with other youth program staff members to evaluate progress on the implementation of outreach plans.
  • Facilitate group meetings, including small-group interventions.
  • Collect and repot data on each activity following program’s guidelines.
  • Support supervisor on the integration of the Program strategies with the rest of the programs within the CHA Department and La Clinica.
  • Assist in the implementation of the Department’s annual trainings for health promoters, as needed.
  • Attend program, department, and all staff meetings including all mandatory La Clinica activities.
  • Meet with supervisor as required to coordinate implementation of programs and services.
  • Represent La Clinica by attending conferences, meetings, coalitions, and community planning groups meetings, as designated by supervisor.
  • Attend required trainings to increase/maintain skills.
  • Follow La Clinica’s Code of Conduct, and all other personnel Policies and Procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up-to 30 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to work outside and stand-up for prolonged period during outreach events.
  • Must be able to work on a flexible schedule, available some evenings and weekends.
  • Able to perform duties in different La Clinica’s locations as required.
  • Able to perform duties and responsibilities remotely when needed.
