Job Summary

The role of a CNC Supervisor is to manage the performance and profitability of the machining department, including direct oversight and coordination of department production activities and requirements. With creativity and confidence in leadership, this position will train, support, and develop a team of multi-skilled Programmers/Machinists to maintain efficiencies while producing quality machined parts. This position will have foresight to identify future needs of the CNC department, as well as of the company, and take action to drive change for continual development and success.

Responsibilities

• Direct and manage machining activities to meet production deadlines and quality standards
• Manage production schedule by assigning work and facilitating department workflow
• Develop and manage employee scheduling system to effectively meet workload demands
• Collaborate with supervisors and project managers on quoting, production, and project timeframes
• Assist in researching and purchasing raw materials and components necessary for production
• Develop and maintain employee training programs and department SOP’s and best practices
• Manage personnel and personnel issues within department, evaluate performance and provide corrective action as needed
• Ensure operation of equipment by coordinating repairs and preventative maintenance with internal and external maintenance teams
• Participate in and lead process improvement projects related to productivity, quality, ergonomics, safety, and cost control
• Maintain departmental budget and expenditures
• Other duties as assigned

Competencies

• Advanced knowledge of 2D and 3D programming and multi axis (3+1 and/or 3+2 indexing) machining
• Proficient knowledge of Lathe concepts
• Basic knowledge of true 5 axis machining
• Advanced knowledge of complex fixturing techniques
• Advanced knowledge of high tolerance machining and geometric dimensioning
• Proficient knowledge of the ISO 9001 standard
• Proficient knowledge of relationship management skills and conflict resolution
• Demonstrate leadership by approaching work positively, influencing and motivating employees and colleagues, and accepting accountability
• Organize, prioritize and manage multiple high complexity projects in a cross-functional environment
• Demonstrate time and priority management skills to boost departmental productivity and efficiency
• Demonstrate flexibility and resilience in response to constraints, failures, and adversity
• Show willingness to be a change agent and lead continual change initiatives

Education & Experience

• Degree in Machine Tool, Manufacturing Technology or related field required
• A minimum of 5 years’ CNC programming and machining experience required
• 2+ years of management or supervisory experience preferred
• Experience in ISO9001 or quality systems preferred
