Job Description


Job Overview:
The Client Benefits Specialist supports the best possible resettlement and post-resettlement experience by supporting clients in accessing state public and government benefits and carrying out related activities. They provide services with a strong emphasis on empowerment through a strengths-based approach that supports clients to thrive in their community.

Major Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide a wide variety of direct client services through a trauma-informed framework that safeguards and promotes the dignity and self-determination of clients. Connect clients with IRC and partner resources with a focus on clear and timely communication.
  • Work across teams (Resettlement, Extended Case Management, Education, Employment, Health, Housing) to communicate client information, advocate on their behalf, and support the coordination of services.
  • Applying for the initial OPA benefits before arrival (SNAP, Medicaid, SNAP interview), and maintaining documentation and case notes surrounding it, including being the point of contact with OPA
  • Preparing clients for initial SNAP interview and taking them to the OPA office
  • Prepare client applications for, Social Security Insurance, and disability (SSI/SSDI), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), and other related benefits and support follow up activities.
  • Work on applications such for other benefits such as LIEAP and WIC in conjunction with other teams
  • General education on public benefits, what is available, and how they work.
  • Working with the client to complete the SNAP and Medicaid recertifications.
  • Teaching digital literacy as it applies to benefits such as mybnft app
  • Doing initial intake for RSS
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with community organizations for client referrals as needed.
  • Satisfy recordkeeping requirements and case noting.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

Education: Undergraduate degree preferred, ideally in Social Work, Human Services, or related field, equivalent work experience will be considered.

Work Experience:

Prior related work experience, including customer service, compliance with program requirements, and accurate and timely recordkeeping preferred.

  • Self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills combined with the proven ability to multi-task, prioritize duties, and manage time effectively.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook); ability to use the internet and other digital tools for data entry, research, and problem-solving purposes.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to personal, insured vehicle.

Working Environment:

  • Standard office work environment, potentially supplemented with remote work.
  • A combination of standard office environment, remote work, and ‘field’ time within the service delivery area to perform the above outlined responsibilities.


Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
