SVCC is located in a rural setting of rolling hills, pine and hardwood forests, and farmland. There is easy access to nearby metropolitan Richmond, Virginia, the state’s capital, as well as Raleigh, North Carolina, and Lynchburg, Virginia. The area is famous for its two lakes, Gaston and Kerr, and a multitude of state and national parks which offer recreational opportunities such as fishing, boating, skiing, jet-skiing, hiking, horseback riding, picnics, and relaxation. The area also offers sports arenas for baseball, softball, soccer and beautiful golf courses. There are cultural activities including various theaters and arts councils offering concerts, plays, and live entertainment, and there are many local festivals held throughout the year.

SVCC is currently seeking applicants for the position of CITE Recruitment and Retention Manager (Restricted). The purpose of this position is to collect information from students to create data to be used in planning to increase the enrollment and retention of students in the Center for Information Technology Excellence (CITE) Program. Focus groups and other research methods will be employed to help those underrepresented in the information technology field succeed and attain certificates, degrees and industry recognized certifications.

This position will work closely with the Center for Information Technology Excellence (CITE) Coordinator to recruit and retain students in the CITE program. Position duties and responsibilities include:
  • Create and maintain records for the IT program composed of potential students, current students, and alumni.
  • Assist the CITE Coordinator with the collection and reporting of information and reporting of data
  • Coordinate with the marketing department to plan and host informational sessions for the public designed to educate the public about CITE offerings and help recruit students for upcoming classes.
  • Assist with the promotion of special classes throughout the year. Promotion may include school visits, hosting tours, material creation, social media posts, and interviews with newspaper, radio, and television outlets.
  • Hold focus groups with current and past students to help the CITE Coordinator continuously improve scheduling to reduce student conflicts and improve course offerings.
  • Maintain a list of advisory committee members and industry partners to advance CITEs mission to educate students with the latest IT available in the industry.
  • Contribute to the planning and operation of the CompTIA study room. The contributions will include surveying student needs and provide a list of needs for the CITE Coordinator.
  • Assist the CITE Coordinator with the identification and recruitment of tutors, guest lecturers and guest speakers for the CITE program.
  • Retrieve data and prepare reports as requested
  • Work closely with the CITE Coordinator to assist incoming students with tasks including coaching students through an individual development plan (IDP)
  • Work closely with the college’s dual enrollment personnel to provide information to students, parents, and CTE coordinators.
  • Prepare professional communications designed to recruit students through email, print media, radio, web ads, and social media.
  • Assist with offering sessions designed to improve students’ soft skills, success skills, and interviewing techniques.
  • Assist with the planning of public events within the CITE lab designed to increase enrollment and build alumni relationships.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or closely related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience in distributing information in a professional manner to a variety of stakeholders
  • Strong organizational skills and knowledge of accurate documentation procedures
  • Considerable experience in spreadsheets and record keeping
  • Experience managing a caseload requiring regular contact
  • Substantial experience with computer applications such as Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace and Peoplesoft or a similar student registration software program
  • Experience planning and organizing local community events
  • Experience in college advising or related activities
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and networking skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals in a diverse community
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, develop and implement program activities
  • Ability to interact professionally with students, college employees and members of the public
  • Ability to represent the college’s goals and mission as a positive role model
  • Ability to use independent judgment and discretion
  • Adept at managing tasks, planning events and balancing priorities
  • Self-directed with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Experience creating promotional materials including social media and website presence

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Information Technology, Business, Marketing or closely related field
  • At least one certification in IT including CompTIA ITF+, A+, Network+, Server+, Security+, Project + and comparable certifications is highly desirable
  • Experience with community college advising in academic, workforce, and/or apprenticeship programs
  • Experience with database software along with manipulation and reporting of data
  • Experience working with racially, ethnically, economically and age-diverse individuals
  • Career Readiness Certificate

Special Requirements
This is a restricted, grant funded position. The position will end September 2024 unless the grant funding is extended. Limited telework options are available.
