Position Summary: Under the direction of the Department Supervisor and Senior Technician, the Chemical Operator I will work independently and with other department’s team members to accomplish the goals of the Manufacturing Department and MLI. In general, tasks involve cleaning the manufacturing work area, prepping containers, formulating and packaging product. The Chemical Operator I will demonstrate professional appearance, behavior and attitude at all times while performing his/her job duties.
Schedule: Rotating shift, 5:00am - 5:00pm, (variation & OT as necessary). We offer a shift differential on night shift! Onsite, Moses Lake, Washington
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monitors the production process and ensures efficiency of systems and equipment.
  • Operate systems from control room
  • Respond to alarms by taking appropriate corrective actions and procedures
  • Regulate or shut down equipment during emergency situations, as directed by supervisory personnel
  • Prepare product containers (bottles, drums, totes, etc.) for filling.
  • Formulate and batch product according to customer specifications.
  • Fill container with product following clean room requirements.
  • Prepare product for shipment.
  • Document plant processes and record production data.
  • Transport full and empty product containers in various sizes with the assistance of industrial equipment.
  • Train uncertified Chemical Operators according to procedures.
  • Take special care when handling or moving any raw materials, chemicals, components, equipment or finished goods.
  • Stock product and packaging supplies.
  • Perform housekeeping duties in order to maintain a safe clean work environment.
  • Perform necessary tasks and work hours needed to accomplish departmental and company goals.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Ability:

  • Electric Pallet Truck certification

Advancement: The period of employment before eligibility for advancement to Chemical Operator II from Chemical Operator I is a minimum of twenty-four (24) months. Advancement to a Chemical Operator II will be dependent on a satisfactory competence rating on a performance review, as well as a completion of one hundred percent of all Strategic Employee Development (SED) training specific to the department. Decisions for the advancement are at the discretion of the department manager.
Working Conditions: Duties are generally performed indoors and outdoors, in all weather conditions, in a 24-hour per day, seven days per week manufacturing environment. Handling and working with hazardous materials and chemical manufacturing equipment is routine. The employee may work in the presence of fumes or airborne particles, hot, toxic or corrosive chemicals, water, liquids and electrical equipment. Employees will work in a covered Process Safety Management (PSM) environment containing threshold quantities of flammable liquids and/or gasses that have a potential for fire or explosion. Employees working in this environment are required to be free from devices that are not considered intrinsically safe. Examples of devices that may not be intrinsically safe include Insulin Pumps, Pace Makers, Pain Management devices, etc. The noise level in the work environment is occasionally loud. When working in the presence of these hazards, the employee is expected to follow company safety rules and use proper personal protection such as: hardhat, respirator, hearing protection, protective clothing, safety glasses, safety footwear, etc. MLI is an alcohol and drug free workplace.
Definition: Employees will work in a covered Process Safety Management (PSM) environment containing threshold quantities of flammable liquids and/or gasses that have a potential for fire or explosion. Employees working in this environment are required to be free from devices, including medical devices, that are not intrinsically safe. A device_ termed *_intrinsically safe_ is designed to be incapable of producing heat or spark sufficient to ignite an explosive atmosphere, even if the _device*_ has experienced deterioration or has been damaged. Examples of devices that may not be intrinsically safe include Insulin Pumps, Pace Makers, Pain Management devices, etc._

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk and listen. The employee is frequently required to move full drums, handle and use objects, tools, controls or keyboards; reach with hands and arms; kneel, crouch and occasionally climb. The employee occasionally works with production equipment and material moving equipment, such as forklifts, that require coordination and attention to detail.
The employee must regularly lift and move up to 50 pounds without assistance and with assistance; containers, equipment and tools of greater weight. The employee is regularly required to see and read print, gauges and instrumentation. Specific vision abilities required are; color, close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
