Universal Technical Resource Services, Inc. (UTRS) is currently seeking a candidate for a Chemical Engineer to work in the Butte, MT research facility. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a multifaceted effort to commercialize a novel, green titanium metal production technology.

What will you be doing?*

Duties:*

  • Design and perform experiments to extract and electro-chemically purify titanium metal from various Ti-bearing ores
  • Develop Pilot and Production level plans to scale-up current laboratory processes, equipment, and procedures
  • Evaluate, procure, configure and/or design equipment necessary for experimentation and processing of products, including scale-up
  • Perform appropriate tests and analyses to characterize titanium and other products
  • Write test plans and test procedures
  • Assist with and perform all laboratory procedures
  • Set-up, operate/monitor, and maintain laboratory equipment and contribute to the maintenance of laboratory facility
  • Implement and follow safety procedures
  • Maintain inventory of chemicals and equipment
  • Keep accurate records of experiments and maintain sample database
  • Report activities both written and orally
  • Some domestic and foreign travel will be required.

Job Requirements and Qualifications:*

  • The ideal candidate will have experience in process chemistry, with emphasis on high temperature, molten salt electro-chemistry, and the related processing equipment. Experience with and/or knowledge surrounding other pyrochemical processes is a plus.
  • Experience with experimental procedures and equipment for high temperature, electro-chemical/chemical systems including halides, oxides, and metallics.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Knowledge and experience with chemical/metallurgical laboratory procedures and safety protocol.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision and in a team environment.
  • Adaptable to new situations, equipment, and work environments.
  • Experience with MS Office software, e-mail, and various data acquisition software packages.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. may be required on occasion.
  • Enthusiasm and curiosity for science in general.
  • BS or MS with preferred education in Chemical or Metallurgical Engineering.
  • Must be a US Citizen or able to obtain clearance to work in the United States.
  • UTRS has COVID-19 vaccination status requirement.
