GENERAL SUMMARY:


Responsible for processing and sterilization of surgical instrumentation, diagnostic and biologic testing of central processing equipment, responsible for distribution of supplies to the hospital departments and nursing units as needed. The coordinator will work with the perioperative team to identify process improvement and instrumentation needs.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES:


  • Checks for complete case carts. Obtains instruments needed for surgery. Ensures availability of instruments and supplies for the O. R. suites.
  • Demonstrates effective and thorough communication with CPD staff, O.R. suites and management. Provides daily reports of activities to supervisors and coordinators on their shift and incoming shifts. Functions as a leader in the department and provides coverage to other shifts/ cores in times of need and as assigned by supervisor.
  • Decontaminates equipment, instruments, and prosthetic devices in accordance with established procedures. Uses correct procedures and protective equipment when working with hazardous material and computer system, i.e., cart washer, tunnel washer, computerized instrument- tracking system.
  • Inspects, assembles and packages instrument sets, doctor's extras, loaner sets and single instruments following established procedures.
  • Understands and operates steam, Sterrad, and ETO gas sterilizers to sterilize instruments. Performs and monitors biological test and keeps accurate records. Participates in projects that improve work efficiency. Assists surgeons, RN's and ST's to provide quality customer and patient care.

  • Education / Training:
  • High School Diploma, CPD Technician Course, or previous CPD experience required.

  • Work Experience:
  • 1-2 Years’ experience as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician.

  • Certification, Licensure, Registration:
  • Must be certified as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician.
