Under the direction of the Provost and the Director of Foster Care and Basic Needs, the Center Student Services Specialist will perform a variety of student services by providing enrollment, academic, and career information to pre-college and college students. The individual in this position will be responsible for providing information to students, prospective students and the public thus the incumbent must be knowledgeable of all academics programs in the respective Center as well as all areas of student services and student support services to include, but not limited to: Basic Needs Veteran’s ServicesEOP&S/CARE ServicesHealth CenterStudent Activity & AffairsOutreachStudent SuccessTesting Services Student Financial ServicesFinancial Aid ServicesCashiering Counseling CenterCareer/Transfer ServicesAccess and Ability ServicesLRC and Tutorial ServicesAdmissions & Records Services Bookstore This position is assigned to the COS Hanford Campus. The working hours are 7:45 a.m. – 4:45 p.m., Monday-Friday. Initial placement is at $55,723. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Job duties of the Center Student Services Specialist include: Direct students to appropriate campus support servicesProvide relevant information for general college preparation, admissions and records, financial aid, EOPS, AAC, and other student activity and student support services of the college. Serve as first contact in person or over the phone for the public including prospective students, community members, and current students. Provide support for Student Activity and Affairs activities of the Center including but not limited to distribution of student ID’s and related services. Assist in the development and implementation of special activities to promote COS services (financial aid, registration, admissions, etc.) to internal and external groups. Explain the process for applying to colleges, seeking financial aid and accessing other services. Assist students in the college enrollment process. Understand the registration process and make appropriate referrals for student support, study assistance and registration. Assist students in accessing various personal records and resources via the website; Print unofficial transcripts. Perform Admission and Records duties for the Center and District such as processing of A&R forms, admission applications, AB540 forms, and/or uploading documents into BDMS as assigned. Serve as liaison for students and faculty in processing paperwork for student services including but not limited to admission, registration and records, utilizing District processes and software. Manage counseling appointments with appropriate District software and perform related counseling support such as checking-in appointments, calling students with appointments, receiving documents, assisting students in processes such as lifting holds, and working with others to ensure District processes are compatible for all campuses. Administer student assessment and testing utilizing District processes or software and interpret results, as directed, for appropriate course placement. Perform support for AAC functions at the Center, as assigned, to include administering tests to individuals and groups of students in a wide variety of academic subject areas. Answer questions and provide information regarding all offered tests. Make appropriate service/resource referrals to AAC. Assist in outreach functions as assigned including interaction with high school personnel, students and parents as well as conducting presentations/tours on the college or HS campus.Participate with others, including other programs, in activities such as career fairs and college visitations. Assist with planning and coordinating special events such as guest speakers, field trips, workshops, registration events and college orientations programs. Operate District software and databases necessary to organize and analyze data, generate reports, including but not limited to admission, registration, counseling, assessment, testing, orientation, student support services. Coordinate with Financial Aid to answer questions and provide financial aid assistance. Assist students in completing FAFSA Form and explaining financial aid policies and procedures and federal rules and regulations. Serve as cashier for the Center, including but not limited to sale and distribution of parking permits, testing packets, etc. and/or collection of fees or deposits (Academy rentals, horse boarding, etc.). Assist with Center general student support services including but not limited to bookstore pick-up and returns, monitoring of drop boxes, opening/closing doors, accepting deliveries, posting electronic or paper signs. Assist with creation, delivery and evaluation of internal Center procedures. Train; provide work direction and process timesheets for student workers (tutors, work-study, etc.) Utilize the District’s integrated software in performing the required duties of the position. Serve on committees and special projects/assignments and perform duties as required. Perform related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
