Position Objective

The Security Officer is responsible for patrolling the campus, inspecting and ensuring the security of buildings and grounds, parking enforcement and ensuring college policies and WAC's are adhered to. The individual in this position will also work cooperatively with law enforcement and other emergency responses to ensure campus events are handled swiftly and safely.

The Security Officer is an overtime eligible position.
This is position is represented by the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE), Local 286.

Duties and Tasks (Essential Functions)

Duty: Security Patrol
Tasks Include:

  • Patrol campus buildings, parking lots, and grounds by foot and/or vehicle.
  • Unlock entrances to buildings before normal business hours and secure the same after business.
  • Respond to requests from staff and faculty for building access and escort service after hours.
  • Provide information regarding policy violations to individuals and issue parking tickets.
  • Assist stranded motorists on campus, if possible (e.g., jump start, call of assistance).
  • Coordinate with law enforcement and first responders, when necessary.
  • Carry a radio and cell phone to facilitate communication.
  • Answer and respond to security panel alarms, fire panels, and elevator emergency phones.
  • Ensure the safety to staff, faculty, students, and visitors of CPTC by notifying the necessary authorities.
Duty: Daily logs and incident reports
Tasks Include:
  • Thoroughly record activity on campus using Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Reportexec during shift in a daily log.
  • Investigate and prepare incident reports as necessary.
Duty: Lost and found
Tasks Include:
  • Collect, log, and store lost and found property.
  • Thoroughly survey and document damage to college property and equipment so that work orders and can be initiated.
  • Maintain Security vehicles and other equipment, including refueling, cleaning the patrol car, and performing regular functionality checks on personal equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • A minimum of one year of recent experience (within the past two years) in security, military, or an equivalent position.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certifications prior to starting employment.
  • Valid Washington State Driver's License or Military Driver's License
  • Motor vehicle insurance and safe driving record.
  • Must fluently speak, read, and write English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in criminal justice or related field.
  • Five years of current full-time security experience as a security guard or officer in a higher education setting.
  • Military experience.
