NIKA is hiring for a CAD Drawing Support who will provide engineering design and technical drawing support services to the Defense Health Agency (DHA) based out of our San Antonio, TX location!

Education

  • Associate’s degree in computer aided design from an accredited institution and/or a specialty area certificate in computer aided design from an accredited technical college.

Position Requirements

  • Five (5) years of experience working with Engineering designers utilizing Autodesk and comparable computer aided design.
  • Experience with as-built drawings and providing design proposals required.
  • Working knowledge and familiarity with facility management, building infrastructure systems and associated standard drawing and component naming conventions.
  • Ability to integrate information from a variety of sources into various systems, ensuring proper system interfaces. Understanding of how to collect data for analysis and then develop projects resulting from analysis. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must be knowledgeable enough in building infrastructure systems that you are able to recognize the aforementioned infrastructure systems, their physical properties and arrangement to include insights into their performance characteristics such they can perform their work independently with little or no support from Professional Engineers and SMEs (which the exception of extremely complex designs).

Responsibilities

  • Provides a full array of engineering design and technical drawing support and services to both internal and external HFD customers. Supported files include all files and drawings generated through the use of Autodesk Design and BIM. Collects, updates, and maintains both paper and electronic engineering drawings, technical drawings, schematics, and plans, placing them in the HFD consolidated technical drawing archive.
  • Assists MTF facility managers in the organization and updating of building drawings, plans and master plans.
  • Develops file and technical standardized naming conventions.
  • Serves as liaison between Meridian software programmers and end users to gather and define software business rules and functional requirements.
  • Writes detailed business rules and functional requirements according to standard templates using simple and concise language, documents projects, and participates in design reviews.
  • Reviews and evaluates Mechanical Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) engineering design drawings to accurately reflect as-is conditions for all medical facilities
  • Provides site support updating to Life Safety, Fire Plans, Architectural and MEP changes made locally by the MTF in such a manner that the as-builts accurately reflect the altered or new real property equipment within weeks of the completion of work. Confers with local base Facility Managers to obtain more details if not already provided in the update requests streaming in from the Facility Managers across the enterprise.
  • For all architectural changes of less than 5,000 square feet in a single contiguous building, performs updates remotely using a combination of phone, web conference, email, fax, etc.
  • Updates existing MEP and Architectural infrastructure and architectural elements of as-built drawings to reflect changes made through additions, moves, modifications, etc. MEP engineering design elements include, but are not limited to: Life Safety drawings, fire plans, egress drawings, electrical schematics and one-line diagrams; electrical switchgear and power system placement and details; both interior and exterior electrical power distribution wiring and apparatus; lighting, fire alarm and low-voltage plans; mechanical apparatus such as chillers, cooling towers, air handlers, boilers, pumps, valves and plumbing of process water systems; exterior walls, interior walls, windows, partitions, stairwells, elevators, casework, plumbing fixtures, doors, door swings.
  • Placement of associated text such as RPIE asset numbers, room number, area, and room name is also part of the basic architectural scope.
  • Updates the fire protection layer with all the components of the fire protection system, including control panels, heat detectors, smoke detectors, pull and push stations, egress lighting, fire extinguisher locations, sprinkler head location, and smoke/fire dampers from as-built drawings as required. Performs all drawing work in the version of Autodesk AutoCadd, Drawbase or GeoBase and other similar engineering design software.
  • Uploads completed drawing updates to the HFD consolidated technical drawing archive, adding meta-data tag information to each file as required by the Meridian software for file organization and search.
  • Imports existing PDF scans of facilities when no Engineering design drawing exists, and converts raster files to AutoDesk engineering design or other Engineering design software drawing files to the extent of the modifications/updates being made by contractors.
  • Supports external/internal requests for facility drawing files, installation, and project folder creation; reviews updates of drawings for compliance with standards prior to updating master drawings.
  • Provides training to MTF facility management and maintenance contractor personnel on how to use Meridian software, including basic navigation, zooming in/out, printing, turning on/off layers, copying portions of drawings to PowerPoint, measuring distances, and calculating areas.
  • Actively participates as members of the project commissioning and functional testing teams which validate the designs prior to Government acceptance and the close-out of O&M and MILCON projects. Their involvement is to verify correct spatial placement, drawing dimensions of infrastructure systems prescribed by the contractor designer of record, drawing naming conventions and compliance with technical as-built content of drawings and technical documents.

Pay: $65,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
