This position is classified as an Engineering Aide 3 (EA3). As a CAD Drafter (EA3) you will create and maintain all technical diagrams associated with the development, deployment, and maintenance of critical voice and data communication systems and sites. You will work closely with Engineering, Field Support staff and administrators to identify required documentation and to provide the information required to adequately produce these diagrams.

Travel:
Some travel is required to perform site visits to verify and document existing information is current, accurate, and complete. This may take you to remote mountain sites around the state.

About the Division:
The Electronic Services Division (ESD) supports all goals, most directly sustaining and enhancing agency infrastructure and business processes, by improving collaboration outcomes between WSP business and technology divisions, using consistent planning processes, increasing business continuity capabilities, and providing quality communication services.

Duties

Primary Duties:

  • Produce and update technical drafting documents based on provided information for civil architectural and mechanical drawings, site plans, floor plans, tower drawings, electrical power and grounding drawings, rack configurations, Microwave/Network/LMR system & schematic diagrams, and antenna systems.
  • Perform site visits to document and verify existing information is complete, accurate, and current.
  • Provide project support to ensure required documentation needs are met.
  • Maintain the CAD design and documentation standards for ESD.
  • Maintain a manageable file structure and sustainable change management process for all CAD documents.
Additional Duties:
  • Create statewide communication systems maps, presentations, and monthly documentation status reports.
  • Act in a lead role for specific tasks or projects.

Qualifications

Required:
  • Two (2) years' experience involving design and engineering techniques involving complex Auto Computer Aided Drafting (AutoCAD) drafting
  • Completion of a certified two (2) year education in a design and development program such as AutoCAD or similar application
  • Proficient with Adobe, Visio, and MS Office Applications (PowerPoint and Excel).
  • Competent at using office and job-related equipment including computers, plotters, compass, GPS, etc.
  • Ability to travel to remote mountain sites with extended times of sitting, standing and walking
  • Ability to properly read, understand, interpret, and integrate detailed map information
  • Skilled at developing telecommunications maps, diagrams, and presentations
  • Must possess a valid Washington State driver's license and be able to operate 4WD vehicles to remote mountain sites
Top Candidates will have the following experience:
  • Voice or data communications system experience.
  • Experience and understanding of computer based applications, database and file storage / structure, Web based applications and development, etc.
  • Experience with technical writing
