Job Title Reporting to: Production & Inventory Control Manager

  • Primary Purpose & Value of the Department & Position

The Buyer t procures raw materials and/or finished goods for the manufacturing plant.

  • Primary Duties & Responsibilities *

In addition to complying with all safety and environmental policies and contributing to the company’s Zero Harm commitment, briefly describe 5 to 10 primary activities (not all activities) that are regularly performed and the approximate percentage of time annually devoted to each (equals 100%). Percent

Procure raw materials and finished goods ensuring all material is in place to ship all orders on time and 100% complete

Manage part settings, maintain purchase order dates, and monitor expected receipts report and invoice issues within the Compass system

Perform cycle counts of raw materials and/or finished goods, investigating discrepancies prior to reporting findings to management

Review local supplier pricing and performance and provide feedback for corporate approved suppliers concerning performance as requested by central purchasing

Review inventory stocking levels to facilitate low inventory turns and inventory levels that directly correlate with business levels

Review inventory stocking levels to ensure all necessary materials are available for production demands

Key Measures

  • Procurement of raw material and finished goods needed to facilitate plant’s KPI to ship quality parts on all orders on time and 100% complete
  • Maintain low DOI (Days of Inventory), which increases cash flow, by stocking at levels that respond to business needs

  • Selection of local suppliers

  • Inventory stocking levels on consumables

Tools Required

  • BMR (Building Material Requirements) report – provides 13-week snapshot of upcoming demand by part number. Essential tool for raw material planning
  • Review of BMR for negative balances – this can be run for purchased parts and/or raw materials and provides quick review of only items that will go negative within the 13-week snapshot
  • Review of min/max report for finished goods procurement. If finished goods are organized by planner codes, the reports can be run by planner and ordered on a scheduled basis.

Education & Experience Qualifications

Minimum:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 4 years of experience in a manufacturing environment
  • 1 + years of Purchasing experience

Preferred:

  • 3+ years of purchasing experience
