The Business Development Consultant (BDC), TAN is responsible for driving leads for Thrivent Advisor Network as well as assisting Business Development Officers in managing relationships with prospective advisors.

The BDC will work across multiple lead generation channels (social media, email, phone, and others) to drive engagement with prospective advisors. The BDC will own strategy and execution of a variety of lead generation strategies, assist the business development team in analyzing results, and suggest alternative solutions to meet Thrivent Advisor Network goals.

Beyond their lead generation responsibilities, the BDC will be involved in most stages of the business development process from first meeting through to transitions and onboarding and will be responsible for helping shape a prospect’s key economic, technology, client service, and operations decisions.

On occasion, the BDC will be asked to travel to industry events, TAN events, and home office visits as needed by the business development team.

This can be a remote position within the US.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Build relationships with prospective advisors and COIs in wealth management industry.
  • Source and develop sales prospects.
  • Execute on business development strategies.
  • Maintain and expand referral sources.
  • Make outbound calls and turn them into sales opportunities.
  • Utilize effective questioning and listening techniques.
  • Develop, test, and improve targeting techniques to introduce Thrivent Advisor Network to the right prospective advisors.
  • Work closely with Business Development Officers to move prospects from stage 1 through closed in the business development sales process.
  • Manage projects related to prospective advisors like building pro forma financial models, assisting with asset mapping exercises, and facilitating demos with Thrivent Advisor Network partners.
  • Operate standard office equipment and use required software application to produce correspondence, reports, electronic communication, spreadsheets, and databases.

Required Job Qualifications

  • 2-4 years of business development or related experience
  • College degree in finance, economics, marketing, or related field; masters a plus but not required. Experience in a specialized area of wealth management (client service, direct marketing, technology utilization, operations, sales, etc.) and/or project/program management
  • Knowledge of financial services industry or registered investment advisors a plus
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Demonstrates strong project management and collaboration skills
  • Applies a development mindset that uses creativity and sales expertise to develop new, more effective, and more efficient sales approaches, concepts, practices and procedures of business development in a financial services environment.
  • Strong experience related to supporting high volume coordination and high-level multi-tasking.
  • Experience with heavily detailed coordination of events or meeting planning.
  • Strong technical aptitude with MS Office including Outlook, with a focus on advanced Excel skills
  • Experience maintaining confidentiality of sensitive materials
  • High level of organization, high attention to detail, and strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Take initiative in problem-solving, prioritization, and multi-tasking in a high volume, fast paced environment

Other Critical Factors

  • Industry designations (ChFC, SIE, Series 7, Series 66, etc) are a plus. Thrivent Advisor Network will sponsor BDCs interested in attaining job-related designations.
  • Other duties as assigned
