Minimum Qualifications

Familiarity with cleaning products and materials. Able to read, write and interpret the English language. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. on occasion and stand up to four hours at a time. Must participate in ongoing training such as vehicle safety training and general safety training. Able to work variable hours, primarily full-time from mid-April to early September, and part-time from early September to mid-October. Able to work occasional weekends.

Preferred Qualifications: Basic computer knowledge including the ability to use a WEB browser and communicate via Email at the workplace. Possess good communication skills. Ability to work well with a diverse team of employees.

Building and Grounds Worker- 6025
Starting rate of pay: $20.00

The College of Biological Sciences aims to recognize and reward our excellent faculty and staff for their contributions to the mission of the college. Staff at Itasca are eligible to be nominated for CBS Outstanding Service Awards, which are awarded as a lump sum payment based on sustained job excellence or significant contributions to the unit.


Working Conditions
Work at the Itasca Biological Station located in Itasca State Park, a relatively remote, rural environment, approximately 220 miles north of Minneapolis. The work involves some lifting (up to 50 pounds) and standing up to four hours at a time. This is a seasonal position, primarily full-time from mid-April to early September, and part-time from early September to mid-October. Able to work occasional weekends. Housing is not provided on the Station for this position.


Responsibilities include: Providing general custodial services and light maintenance work for faculty and student cabins, laboratories, bathhouses, the assembly hall, dining hall and miscellaneous service areas to serve students, staff, faculty and visiting groups in residence at the Itasca Biological Station in the College of Biological Sciences.


Duties:
50% Daily Custodial & Light Maintenance Duties

  • Haul trash
  • Clean buildings
  • Custodial & light maintenance duties
  • Laundry

20% Periodic Custodial Projects

  • Spring Cleaning
  • Wax floors
  • Furniture rearranging and change out
  • Fall Shut-down

30% Exterior Duties

  • Sweep walkways, siding and building overhangs
  • Screen and window washing
