At a Glance! Under general direction of the Bookstore Supervisor, this position provides excellent customer service and cashiering support for all Bookstore customers.

This position is classified as a Cashier 2 under the State of Washington Classified Job Specifications and within the Washington Federation of State Employees for Higher Education. The typical hours for the bookstore are Monday through Thursday, 8 am to 5 pm for summer. For fall, winter, and spring, hours are Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm. This position is a max of 75 hours per month. There are multiple positions available.

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities

This position is responsible for:

  • Greeting and acknowledging every guest upon arrival in the store
  • Maintaining knowledge on bookstore products
  • Creating a welcoming, inclusive environment in the bookstore by providing excellent customer service at all times
  • Oversees and authorizes guest returns, exchanges, check authorization, and discounts at the register in our point of sale system
  • Answering phone calls and review and respond to emails in the Bookstore email inbox
  • Ensuring compliance of store policies and procedures while supporting loss prevention efforts
  • Maintain cleanliness of the bookstore products and replenish displays
  • Training cashiers and cross-training other staff
  • Process online orders and prepare shipments for customers
  • Provide administrative and staff support services in supervisor's absence or when call-offs from student employees occur
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Typical Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Two years of experience in retail selling, merchandising, cash handling, inventory control, or equivalent
  • One year of full-time college level coursework with major study in retail merchandising, business, accounting, management, or marketing may be substituted for one year of required work experience
