Job Description: Behavioral Health Specialist

MBI will provide professional mental health services to over 500 consumers in the PEP-V and ISAQ centers. It is our goal to embrace, advocate, and empower the minds and lives of men and women at the centers. Our highly experienced Clinician and Behavioral Health Specialist provide premium services throughout the DC Metropolitan Area.

MBI employs dedicated individuals, who want to help facilitate change and growth, to work with customers who have serious mental illness and disabilities as mental health support workers/care coordinators. The Behavioral Support workers spend at least 70% of their time at the sites interacting with the customers at the PEP-V/ISAQ teams and 30% of their time to provide coordination of care for the customers with their CSAs. Behavioral Specialist goals are to teach clients the skills required to manage their disorder and succeed their individual recovery goal and to maintain their stay successfully.

Responsibilities:

Care Coordination - contact the CSA to let them know that their Consumers are at one of the sites and to re-engage them in services. BHS will follow up to ensure that actual contact occurs with the CSA by continuing to contact the CSA until there’s a warm hand off or the CSA notifies BHS that the Consumer is no longer with the Agency. In cases where the Consumer is no longer connected to the Agency, AHL is contacted to connect the Consumer with their Agency of Choice. BHS ensures that intake is completed. Assist Consumer in developing an exit plan with their provider and Core Service Agency

Conduct social/emotional well check – BHS will attend daily huddles and check on Consumers identified by the DHS and the Medical Team as well as those receiving mental health from DBH or exhibiting mental stress who needs mental health support and follow-up, skill building around anger management, social skills, review of the site rules and regulations, concerns around their treatment or someone to listen on their concern for the day

De-escalation- BHS provides crisis intervention by engaging consumers with positive behavioral intervention and re-directing Consumers when necessary

Exit planning – work with the Site team to coordinate discharge of Consumers including working with the CSA for a follow up appointment upon discharge

● Continuous and real-time short-term Intervention

● Suicide Assessments and FD12 Assessments

● Engagement in Mental Health Services and Linkage

● Re-Engagement in Services

● Care Coordination with DBH Core Service Agencies

● Engagement and Activity Planning

● SUD Groups and Support Groups

● Linkage to supports for substance use disorders

● Connect to AHL for services and ensure that Diagnostic Assessments are completed

● Roommate Issues and Concerns

● Mediation

● Follow up with DBH Core Service Agencies and CC case managers to ensure assigned workers are seeing customers at PEPV in person or virtual to assist with Exit planning

Additional Support - Providing psycho-educational and teaching symptom management skills to minimize the effects of symptoms of individual daily lives and assisting the customers to develop their personal support systems.

Qualifications:

● Strong oral and written communication skills

● Strong organizational, computer, and time management skills required

● Previous work in the mental health field and/or social services/social work, preferred

● Must have a background check

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: From $35.00 per hour

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Monday to Friday
  • On call
