Alameda County Behavioral Health’s Schreiber Center is recruiting for a temporary Behavioral Health Clinician II

The PROGRAM

The Schreiber Center offers specialty mental health services for Alameda County residents aged eighteen and over who are diagnosed with developmental disabilities and experience severe mental health symptoms. The Schreiber Center is named for Mary Lu and Robert Schreiber, two psychiatrists who were dedicated to serving individuals with developmental disabilities in our community for over a decade. The mission of the Schreiber Center is to collaborate with the Regional Center of the East Bay (RCEB) and provide coordinated care to individuals with developmental disabilities who meet specialty mental health criteria.

Schreiber Center Program goals include:

  • Promoting integrated health care (Regional Center of the East Bay, Primary Care, Behavioral Health Care Services
  • Preventing hospitalization, incarceration and institutionalization
  • Providing timely and clinically appropriate interventions in a respectful and culturally sensitive environment
  • Helping people with developmental disabilities who also have co-occurring severe mental health needs build knowledge and skills that support wellness.

The POSITION

Under general direction of the Division Director, the Behavioral Clinician provides individual therapy that addresses specialty mental health and is sensitive to intellectual/developmental disability conditions. The Behavioral Clinician works as part of a team, consults with psychiatrist who provides medication management and collaborates with Regional Center. The Behavioral Clinician is also responsible for completion of specialty mental health documentation and referral screening services, which includes but not limited to, answering calls about the referral process, receives, reviews and screens referrals, and schedules and participates in intake assessments.

Examples of duties:

  • Provides clinical and case management services to clients with developmental disabilities and serious mental illness; interviews clients and family members; conducts initial and ongoing psychosocial strength-based assessments.
  • Identifies and pursues necessary resources to implement treatment plans.
  • Conducts individual psychotherapy sessions; provides education on behavioral health care symptoms and the role of medication in alleviating such symptoms; diagnoses illnesses and dual recovery/co-occurring disorders.
  • Prepares and maintains psychosocial case histories for use in diagnostic evaluations and monitoring client progress.
  • Provides crisis intervention as needed; stabilizes clients in crisis including brief intervention in clinic; arranges for hospitalization and coordinates treatment elements.
  • Maintains all records in accordance with the Quality Assurance standards of Alameda County Behavioral Health Care Services.
  • Participates in clinical case presentations and peer reviews.
  • Prepares reports, case summaries, correspondence and other written materials.
  • Conducts mental status examinations and formulates Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM)-IV related diagnoses.
  • Collaborates with other departments and agencies related to client treatment planning.
  • Provides education and consultation services to Alameda County departments and the community as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the classification.

EDUCATION: Possession of a Master's degree from an accredited school in social work, marriage and family therapy, psychology, counseling, nursing or related field. -AND-

EXPERIENCE: Equivalent of six-months of full-time post license experience as a behavioral health/mental health clinician providing clinical and/or case management services. -AND-

LICENSE: Must possess a valid clinical license from the applicable licensing authority: California Board of Behavioral Sciences, California Board of Psychology, or California Board of Registered Nursing.
