Job Title: Automation Technician

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt


The Automation Technician will assist with the integration and implementation of the Company’s automated control systems. This position will be responsible for the safe installation, operational troubleshooting, and development of automation systems. This includes ensuring: adherence to standard operating procedures, consistent maintenance procedures, enforcement of policies, and the safeguarding of proprietary information and functions related to automated control system operations of the Company. This position will report to the Manager of Automated Operations.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:

  • Graduated from a standard high school or GED or have equivalent experience
  • Minimum of one year of experience with instrumentation and automated control systems
  • Advanced computer skills; Strong understanding of networking essentials and Microsoft operating systems
  • Understanding of the operation of various electrical and mechanical systems
  • Minimum of one-year water transfer experience
  • Thorough project technical review and understanding (scope, approach, design)
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills
  • Understanding of operations of SCADA/HMI systems
  • Willing to travel and stay overnight at remote job locations
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Ability to work effectively with other employees in a team environment
  • Good communication skills with individuals at all levels

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:

  • One-year experience operating SCADA hardware and software
  • Three years of experience operating water transfer systems
  • Strong knowledge of current computer technology and TCP/IP configurations
  • Knowledge of industrial automation software packages like GE iFIX
  • Knowledgeable with SCADA and PLC software
  • Knowledgeable in electronics circuitry and troubleshooting
  • Knowledge in Radio Frequencies (RF), and commercial networking configurations

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for overall operations of Keystone’s Automated Water Management Systems for a particular operator or account
  • Transportation, mobilization, and demobilization of field automation equipment including trailers, tower masts, repeater towers, generators and other required equipment as necessary
  • Set-Up and troubleshooting PLCs and HMI applications in the field
  • Set operational parameters and setpoints within PLC and HMI/SCADA in conjunction with each individual project engineered design
  • Serve as primary HMI/SCADA system operator during water transfer system operations
  • Assist in the continuous improvement, design, and development of Keystone’s Automated Control Systems
  • Performing functional testing and validation of automated control systems.
  • Training Field Automation Operators on how to run the system
  • Implementing standard practices and standard operating procedures for automated control system management
  • Custodial supervision of automated assets within integrators region, completing routine preventative maintenance as scheduled and maintaining inventory
  • Responsible for the safe, efficient and environmentally sound operation of water transfer services for particular operator or account
  • Acts as a voice to the client as a representative of Keystone management
  • Ensures all EH&S procedures are followed, including the training of new employees to the job site. Utilizes appropriate safety equipment and ensuring that all company policy, procedures, governmental regulations, etc. are adhered to.
  • May be asked to evaluate potential new jobs. Work with engineering to properly spec the job for cost-benefit analysis
  • Responsible for the safe, efficient and environmentally sound operation of leased equipment, pumping facilities, and water transfer operations
  • Ensures proper monitoring, inspection, and performing of minor repairs in order to maintain pumps, both electric and diesel, and flow meters
  • Installs and monitors water transfer equipment including pumps, flow meters, filter pods and various valves necessary for transfer operations
  • Keeps downtime and operating costs to a minimum
  • Supervise, assist, direct and train employee(s) by working with them

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:


The Field Automation Technician will have Custodial Supervisory Responsibility for Field automation assets while assigned to the region. During non-automated Water Transfer System Operations, the Field Automation Technician will report to Water Transfer Operations for work.
