The Certified Athletic Trainer is a highly educated and skilled professional specializing in athletic health care. In cooperation with physicians and other allied health personnel, the Athletic Trainer functions as a n integral member of the athletic health care team in secondary schools, colleges and universities, sports medicine clinics, professional sports programs and other athletic health care settings sponsored by Davis Hospital & Medical Center. As specialists in the prevention, recognition and rehabilitation of injuries incurred by athletes, athletic trainers administer immediate emergency care and - under the supervision of a licensed physician - use their knowledge of the injuries incurred by the physically active individual and the factors influencing them to develop a treatment program based on medical, exercise and sports sciences. Traveling to various locations will be required often. All other duties as assigned.
Regulatory/Education/Experience Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Sports Medicine or related field required. Masters Degree in Sports Medicine related area preferred. Previous experience with injury evaluation and implementing comprehensive injury management strategies. Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

Job Specific Criteria:
Employee must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned service area. The skills and knowledge needed to provide such care might be gained through education, training, and experience.
  • Provides general aspects of basic patient care within the Certified Athletic Trainer's scope of practice.
  • Meets communication needs of patients in an age appropriate manner.
  • Provides care appropriate to the condition and age of the patient.
  • Gait training, crutch fitting, orthotics for patient and assist patient(s) with equipment.
  • Assists in teaching therapeutic exercise, modalities to patient(s).
  • Schedules special tests and procedures for patient(s). Assists in research for physician.
  • Markets the practice as an outreach to secondary schools, colleges, performing arts groups or mid-size employers.
  • Demonstrates the ability to gather routine patient history information and assist with physical exams.
  • Demonstrates the ability to participate in general office activities, including operating a computer, scheduling visits, etc.
  • Ensures medical supplies and equipment are sterilized and in proper working condition.
  • Maintains a good working relationship both within the Department and with other departments.
  • Demonstrates the ability to assist physicians with procedures and performs services requiring technical and manual skills under the direction of a Physician.
  • Other duties as assigned.
