Job Summary
Eastern Washington University seeks applications for an Associate Director of Institutional Research, in the Office of Institutional Effectiveness.

Position Summary
This position assists the Executive Director of Institutional Research and Effectiveness (IRE) with delegated aspects of unit operations. Primary responsibilities include developing, implementing, maintaining and managing a variety of projects in the following areas: reporting, research, communication, and effectiveness. Leverage technology to effectively manage projects. Appropriately manage and allocate resources to complete projects satisfactorily and in a timely manner. The Associate Director of Institutional Research (IR) provides expertise, guidance, and judgment in decision-making and interpretation of reports and analysis. This position will support reporting technologies, program and office communications, and quality assurance monitoring.
This is a 12-month administrative position reporting to the Executive Director of Institutional Research and Effectiveness.

The position requires a high standard of personal and professional ethics, and the ability to communicate and work effectively with all constituent groups internal and external to the institution, and in a collective bargaining and shared governance environment.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in math, statistics, computer science, economics, management information systems or related field.
  • Minimum of two-years experience with research and data analytics, preferably in a leadership role.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a positive manner to build partnerships and work effectively in support of university services.
  • Demonstrated experience using computer technologies such as databases, internet, spreadsheets, tracking systems, and word processing.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and time while under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Candidate must demonstrate interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility and/or diversity.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Two years of related experience in Institutional Research, preferably in a leadership role
  • Experience in designing, conducting, interpreting, reporting and explaining data analysis
  • Experience programming using a major statistical package SPSS, R, SAS, or STATA
  • Experience with Banner
  • Thorough experience and knowledge in data collection and analysis techniques, statistics or social science research techniques, knowledge of organization-specific computer application programs; knowledge or organizational principles and procedures involved in handling sensitive data
  • Experience working with internal and external constituents to identify and clarify data requests and select appropriate data, analysis techniques, and deliverables within given timelines
  • Able to provide good judgment, decision-making, and problem solving
  • Knowledge of principles and procedures involved in handling sensitive data including survey responses and personally identifiable information
  • Ability to present complex findings and recommendations in a clear concise manner both in writing and verbally
  • Active listening, critical thinking, good interpersonal skills and ability to work on multiple projects concurrently while abiding deadlines
  • Knowledge of common institutional research reports, external surveys, and governmental obligations
  • Experience working with faculty and leadership on a university or college campus
  • Familiarity with data mining

Operations
  • Responsible for and oversee the day-to-day operations of the Office of Institutional Research. Develop or update and implement office operations and procedures to include but not limited to: filing and records systems, processing of requests, inventory maintenance and control. Establish quality controls and procedures that lead to efficiency and effectiveness of the office.
  • Manage, direct, and supervise the work of assigned staff in the Office of Institutional Research. Interview and recommend for hire, train, approve leave and timesheets, evaluate, and coach/counsel as warranted.
  • Define performance expectations, advise employees on performance deficiencies and identify needed corrections.
  • Monitor and manage work requests and workflow in IR. Assign tasks accordingly, follow-up to ensure work-request completion.
  • Attend designated university meetings on behalf of the Executive Director as requested.
  • Train university faculty and staff on use of applicable software as appropriate; provide direct assistance in more complex data extraction.
  • Serve as a member of search committees as requested.

  • Oversee the collection of University data for submission to federal and state agencies, and other external funding agencies.
  • Assist in the collection of data for the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities accreditation and individual academic program accreditation.
