As the Assistant Winemaker, you will be directly involved with the locally handcrafted and award-winning wines that our Adirondack community has grown to love. Since 2008, Adirondack Winery has established two tasting rooms and ships to thousands of customers in 35 states. In addition, our wine can be found in nearly 400 liquor stores and restaurants throughout Upstate New York!
Adirondack Winery recently opened a brand new multi-million dollar tasting room and winemaking headquarters, this newest addition allows the company to triple its production and expand its services! It's prime time to get in on the winemaking action!
Overview:
This position assists the winemaker in all tasks related to winemaking from grape to bottle.
Essential Functions:
  • Assist in the sourcing, ordering, and storing of raw materials used in winemaking.
  • Assist with Crush/Press of grapes.
  • Following the direction of the winemaker, start fermentation of wine, care for the wine during fermentation, clarifying, and aging stages. Including but not limited to additions wine transfers, laboratory analysis cold stabilization, and blending.
  • Assist with filtering and bottling of wine.
  • Maintain cleanliness of facility, equipment, and working spaces.
  • Maintain records in accordance with Adirondack Winery requirements and applicable government requirements.
  • Manage wine storage for maximum storage and safety.
  • Facilitate the testing of juice and wine and making necessary additions and/or corrections.
  • Conduct inventories of raw materials, supplies, and finished products.
Non-Essential Functions:
  • Assist with unloading delivery trucks when needed.
  • Assist with basic facility repairs and maintenance.
Minimum/Essential Qualifications:
  • Experience or education in craft beverage making.
  • Familiarity with a lab environment.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Mechanical aptitude for maintaining and repairing winery equipment.
  • Organizational skills.
  • Computer skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 2+ years of commercial winemaking experience
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Experience with carbonated products.
  • Degree or Certificate in viticulture or related field.

Schedule: Monday - Friday 9am-5pm with some nights and weekends required September/October for harvest season.
Team Player – Understanding that Adirondack Winery is a small business and as such, all employees must be prepared to jump in as needed on a variety of tasks with the well-being of the company as the ultimate goal. At certain times of the year, this staffer may be called upon to represent Adirondack Winery at off-site events or work in other areas of the business to accommodate business needs.
Physical Demands - The ability to frequently lift, move and load cases of wine (approx. 35lbs), Must be able to remain in a stationary position for 50% of the time, sitting or standing for up to 8 hours per day. Constantly operate a computer and other office types of machinery such as calculator, copier, and printer.
Working conditions - This position requires modest outside work in warm and cold temperatures and in the elements such as rain and snow. The winery can be warm in the summer and cool in the winter. Floors at times can be slippery and you must have a good ability to be able to walk/move safely. This is a manufacturing environment and as such, there is dangerous equipment and attention to safety is paramount.
