We are excited to be hiring a second Assistant County Manager to serve under the County Manager and the Board of County Commissioners. We are looking for an executive focused, strategic leader who understands the vision of the Board of County Commissioners, public sector operations, and can optimize resources to efficiently deliver services.

This is an appointed, “at-will” position reporting to the County Manager that serves at the pleasure of the County Manager in consultation with the Board of County Commissioners and is expected to work collaboratively with other county elected officials and department directors

This position assists the County Manager in planning, coordinating, and implementing County programs and services and achieving the County’s goals and objectives, as established by the Board of County Commissioners. In this role, you'll provide organizational leadership, direction, and supervision to assigned departments and programs and may be assigned to plan, implement, and evaluate a variety of interdepartmental and intergovernmental projects and/or organizational changes consistent with the mission and vision of the County. This role represents the County on various boards, commissions, and committees.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in public administration, business, economics, finance, accounting, or a related field.
  • Four (4) years of progressively responsible management experience, including at least three (3) years of experience providing senior-level leadership and supervision of a diverse multi-cultural, multi-disciplinary work group. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, county, and local laws, ordinances, codes, and regulations.
  • Experience working within local or state government’s political environment and ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with county leaders and other stakeholders.
  • Skilled at preparing, implementing and interpreting complex short and long-range strategic plans, including considerations of budgetary and public impacts.

  • Current Washington State Driver’s License or have an appropriate accommodation.
