GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

The position is responsible for assisting the high school principal in the coordination, supervision, and management of the school program and operations as well as promoting and enhancing the principal’s and superintendent’s district vision.


ESSENTIAL TASKS:

  • Assist the high school principal in developing and maintaining an effective educational program consistent with State and Federal guidelines and the philosophy, policies, and goals of the School Board; meeting and conferring with students, parents, faculty and staff; preparing reports.
  • Assist the high school principal in the overall administration of the school; interpret and enforce school and school division policies and regulations.
  • Assist the high school principal in monitoring compliance with federal, state, and local mandates and guidelines related to local and state testing programs and the local special education program.
  • Assist the high school principal in planning and implementing a professional development/growth program for teachers and staff.
  • Serve as the principal in the absence of the regular principal.
  • Propose schedules of classes and extracurricular activities; help schedule courses, students, and teachers.
  • Assist in coordinating transportation, custodial, cafeteria, and other school support services; help conduct safety inspections and safety drill practice activities.
  • Assist in the reporting and monitoring of student attendance.
  • Assist in maintaining discipline throughout the student body; deal with special cases as necessary.
  • Work in collaboration with the School Resource Officer and other community organizations and agencies in supporting the safety needs of all students.
  • Serve with parents, faculty, and student groups, as requested, in advancing educational and related activities and objectives.
  • Work and collaborate with all members of the school community to create high-performance teams with the high school principal.
  • Assist in developing a positive school culture that enhances high-quality teaching and learning for all students.
  • Attend student activities, including after school activities, sports games, and other student-related activities as assigned by the high school principal.
  • Assist in preparing students to be successful in this global economy and post-graduation.
  • Work with teacher leaders and department heads to devise and to plan effective intervention plans for students as applicable.
  • Work collaboratively with special education teachers and division staff to identify and to meet the needs of special education students, those in the Child Study process, and on 504 plans.
  • Attend meetings; supervise teachers and departments as assigned by the high school principal.
  • Monitor and analyze student data with teacher leaders or department heads as assigned by the high school principal.
  • Explain and interpret division-wide curriculum/instructional goals and objectives to teachers, parents, students, and the community.
  • Assist in hiring of staff as assigned by the high school principal.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of a systematic method of supervising the instructional program through the use of learning walks, observations, documentations, and follow-up conferences.
  • Assist teachers in evaluating methods and materials and developing effective learning plans and classroom management techniques.
  • Assist in the coordination and supervision of school counseling services and career planning if applicable and assigned by the high school principal.
  • Perform related work as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Thorough knowledge of the practices, methods and techniques used in the administration and supervision of all programs in a school; skill in oral and written communications; ability to motivate others to reach their fullest potential; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school officials, parents, students, teachers, support staff and associates.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Master's Degree in education administration, at least three to five years of teaching experience in middle and/or high school, an endorsement in Administration and Supervision, PreK-12 required, a strong knowledge base in secondary curriculum and working with middle and/or high school students are preferred. Technology skills, including the knowledge base of Google applications, are preferred.


A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
