Summary

Save the Children’s U.S. Programs (USP) division is committed to ensuring that all children in rural America have a healthy, strong foundation to thrive as learners and in life. Our goals are to increase kindergarten readiness and grade-level literacy and math proficiency for children in under-resourced rural communities. We are seeking an Advisor, Fundraising & Writing. In this role, you will develop high-quality communications, including proposals and reports, for USP’s private donor accounts (individuals, corporations and foundations). You will be responsible for writing and assembling content that presents USP’s vision, programming and goals, in a clear and compelling manner. You will also manage the gift-in-kind vetting process in partnership with the Corporate Partnerships team. Initiative and the ability to drive projects through to completion are key attributes for the role, as are excellent writing skills with a particular strength in communicating in a concise and persuasive manner.

What You’ll Be Doing (Essential Duties)

Writing and Project Management (60%)

  • Develop effective and persuasive narrative content for use in all types of donor communications, including proposals and reports, and make recommendations for effective ways of communicating this content to different audiences.
  • Develop strategy, concepts and framework for the submission of high-quality proposals, reports and other content pieces to private funders.
  • Meet regularly with program teams to understand funding needs and areas of innovation.
  • Serve as a direct liaison to the Corporate Partnerships (CP) team and implement processes to vet gift-in-kind opportunities in alignment with USP’s programmatic priorities.

Fundraising Strategy (30%)

  • Secure funding to meet shared revenue targets for Save the Children’s domestic programs.
  • Work in close partnership and promote collaboration with fundraising, finance, program and marketing colleagues to position USP with individual philanthropists, corporations and foundations as a long-term partner of choice.
  • Monitor and report on team progress toward fundraising goals.
  • Stay up to date on program priorities and how they align to fundraising trends in the private sector.

Special Projects (10%)

  • Contribute towards the implementation of USP’s fundraising plans as required.
  • Perform other duties as may be required for the benefit of the team.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, plus at least 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Previous experience in nonprofit fundraising and in developing donor communication materials including proposals and reports.
  • Knowledge of customer relationships management databases (e.g. Blackbaud).
  • Professional proficiency in MS Office suite.
  • Professional proficiency in spoken and written English, with the ability to convey technical language in a clear, concise manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with individuals and teams at all levels, both internally and externally.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering and maintaining an environment of diversity, inclusion, and belonging.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and complete multiple complex tasks.

Compensation

Save the Children is offering the following salary ranges for this position, dependent on candidate location:

  • Geo 1- NY Metro, DC, and other locations with labor costs significantly above national average: Target Salary for this position is $84,150 – $94,050 base salary
  • Geo 3-Locations significantly below the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $68,850 – $76,950 base salary

Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, base salary of internal peers, business sector, and geographic location.
