SUMMARY

Under the direct supervision of the Activity Director, the Activity Assistant shall assist in planning and carrying out a therapeutic activity program and do related work as required.
Vulnerable Adult Mandated Reporter
A mandated vulnerable adult reporter of maltreatment, neglect, and abuse of vulnerable residents/tenants. Required to report any alleged maltreatment, neglect, or abuse to your supervisor and appropriate state agencies

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

· Working directly with residents, singly and in-groups, toward the fulfillment of treatment objectives and goals set in resident’s Care Plan.

· Complies with all State and Federal Rules and Regulations pertaining to Activity Department

· Attempting to motivate residents to participate in activity programs.

· Communicates professionally and effectively with residents, visitor’s supervisors and co-workers at all times.

· Working with volunteers in activity groups.

· Carrying out a specific program including recreational, divisional, intellectual, religious and community related activities, etc.

· Assisting in carrying out special events and outside entertainment.

· Being able to carry out established day activity program in the absence of activity staff.

· Abides by all facility policies and procedures.

· Maintaining supplies and equipment.

· Keeping physical area clean and organized.

· Maintaining supplies and equipment.

· Partaking in Inservice training.

· Provide services directly to and for residents.

· Maintaining necessary records and reports, including daily attendance records and also activity care plans and progress notes as needed. Assist with MDs and Compass as needed.

· Abide by facility policies and procedures.

· Follows instructions willingly, able to meet deadlines, organizational loyalty, honesty, punctual, and dependable.

· Has desire and is able to interact with geriatric, convalescent, chronically, seriously, or terminally ill residents with respect, caring and understanding.

· Has an outgoing, enthusiastic manner.

· Is able to be creative through programs for elderly residents.

· Adheres to Federal/State regulations and guidelines, including Resident Rights.

· Is able to display tact and good judgement in dealing with varying situations involving physicians, patients and their families, and visitors, as well as management and staff.

· Must be able to work well with others and maintain harmonious relationships.

· Must be able to safely perform the essential job functions, with or without reasonable accommodation, without posing a direct threat to other employees, residents, or self.

MARGINAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

· Supervise volunteers and community service volunteers under the direction of the Activity Director.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. · Working knowledge of directing group activity.

· Considerable knowledge of the social, psychological and recreational needs of the aged and disabled.

· Ability to maintain accurate and complete records and make clear and detailed reports.

· Ability to establish and maintain effective working and public relationships.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

· None Required

· Prefer: One or more years of training and/or experience in the field of activities in a nursing home setting or equivalent experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

· Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

· Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

REASONING ABILITY

· Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

· Must be able to deal effectively with stress created by sick residents, multiple tasks, noises, interruptions, and work cooperatively as part of the health care team while maintaining a pleasant demeanor. (Continuously)

· Close vision, distance, vision, and peripheral vision.

· Push/pull up to 25 pounds.
