Job Title:
Accountant

Supervisor: Controller

Effective Date: December 1, 2022


Job Summary:
Work as part of an administrative team to provide coordination of financial and management information systems.


Essential Job Duties:

  • Maintain member and staff confidentiality at all times. 2. Make sure all incoming agency telephone calls are answered.
  • Have legible handwriting.
  • Be able to do accrual method accounting.
  • Be able to read and comprehend agency policy and procedures. 6. Be able to operate agency computer system and software.
  • Be able to analyze complex accounting problems.
  • Be able to work under pressure caused by tight deadlines.

Specific Financial/Administrative Support Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works with daily accounts payable, receivable, and payroll to assure timely payments and reconciliation for accounts. Accounts include petty cash system, main account, residential account, operating account, and savings accounts.
  • Maintain general ledger and supporting documentation per agency

procedures and audit firm guidelines (GAAP).

  • Processes payroll per agency schedule. 4. Make accurate cross-check and reconciliations to balance sheets per information provided by Controller i.e. Medicaid, Medicare,

and other insurance carriers) or other reconciliations as indicated.

  • Generates monthly and quarterly financial statements in coordination with Controller.
  • Generates financial information as requested by Executive Director.
  • Assists Executive Director and Controller in budget

preparations.

  • Prepares work papers and research questions for yearly independent audit.
  • Works with other administrative staff to maintain office

functions.

10 Other duties as assigned.


Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrated ability to run computer systems and software.
  • Current home phone/address.
  • Valid drivers license and clean driving record in order to use

agency vehicles.

  • 10 hours per year minimum outside training/education in consultation with supervisor.
  • Agree to permit State Patrol Background Check.
  • Be free of substance abuse.
  • Working knowledge and adherence to agency policies/procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education Required: Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, related degree or 2 years experience in accounting position.

Experience Required: Nonprofit experience preferred with mental health agency or related social service agency. Ability to acquire specialized trainings related to non-profit work.

Skills Required: Ability to work independently and within a team.
