Responsibilities

Walden University seeks a program coordinator who is excited and forward thinking about the future of Public Health. The Program Coordinator for the CEPH accredited Master of Public Health and Doctor of Public Health Program is a full-time administrator who reports to the Associate Dean, College of Health Sciences and Public Policy and works closely with the College's full- and part-time faculty, other program coordinators, academic advising, and administrative staff. The Program Coordinator also works closely with various academic centers and serves on program workgroups and university committees. The person filling the position will need flexibility and creative problem-solving skills and a strong commitment to their profession.

The person in this position is responsible for administrative duties, which include but are not limited to:
  • Mentoring, supervision, and evaluation of contributing faculty
  • Support assessment and retention efforts, initiatives, and reports to maintain CEPH accreditation for MPH and DrPH programs
  • Assisting with faculty recruitment, orientation, and development
  • Collaborate with the Associate Dean in course scheduling and faculty assignments
  • Facilitate course revision oversight, rubric revision oversight, course content development, and other curricular activities as needed
  • Oversight of the processes and investigation of plagiarism, student complaints, and petitions
  • Engagement in scholarship
  • Service on program workgroups, advisory councils, university and school committees

Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
  • Earned doctorate in field of study or closely related field. (An earned doctorate in public health, a health sciences discipline or in a closely-related discipline from an accredited institution. A MPH is required if the candidate does not possess a doctorate in public health.)
  • Candidates should possess a record of intellectual and professional contributions to the field of Public Health, including experience in the practice of Public Health.
  • Three to five years of teaching experience at the degree level of the program.
  • Experience in chairing or serving on dissertation and thesis committees.
  • Commitment to advocating for the learning and development needs of students earning their degrees in a distance learning environment including students who are experienced professionals.
  • Candidates should be able to work in cross functional teams and be comfortable with the business aspect of the educational enterprise and be flexible, timely and responsive, as well as possess the ability to take on broader support roles in a fast-paced environment.
  • Teaching, advising, and mentoring; commitment to the promotion of applied research and the recruitment and development of a diverse faculty; excellent leadership, communication, team, and human relations skills.
  • Candidates should also have experience in faculty/staff development, supervision, evaluation.
  • Experience with distance learning preferred.
  • Must be able to travel to quarterly faculty meetings, residencies, and other events, as needed.

Tools/Technical Skills:

The Program Coordinator must be able to use Microsoft Office products (MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint), zip software, and Adobe Acrobat and must have reliable Internet access as well as alternate access in cases where primary access becomes unavailable.
Walden University provides a company-owned laptop for use by program coordinators, and they are expected to use this laptop according to the Corporate Computing policy as outlined in the Employee Handbook.

Licensing/Certification:

Program Coordinators must be appropriately credentialed, possess an earned degree in the program discipline, and may be expected to be licensed or license-eligible in order to teach in specific programs. If participating in research, the Program Coordinator may publish and acknowledge Walden University.

Supervision, Leadership, University Contributions:

The Program Coordinator may be asked to serve on faculty governance or academic policy committees, and, in general, participate in other ways to strengthen the academic reputation of Walden University.
