**This position has multiple start dates, open until filled**World Relief Western WA envisions every refugee & immigrant welcomed by community, rooted in community, and empowered for community. Since 1979, World Relief Western WA has served thousands of refugee families in the greater Puget Sound region through initial resettlement services all the way through the citizenship process. Newly arrived refugees face multiple barriers to self-sufficiency including limited English proficiency, lack of employment experience, lack of resources, and limited transportation among others. Many individuals we resettle are unfamiliar with the financial system of the United States as economies differ throughout the world. The ability to successfully make a household budget to meet basic needs, understand the credit system and avoid debt, plan wisely for the future through savings, and more is vital to long-term integration into a new community. The AmeriCorps member will be providing essential education through both individual meetings with families and group workshops in conjunction with subject matter experts. The AmeriCorps member will serve with casework staff at World Relief to provide supplemental financial literacy education for refugee families to encourage short-term and long-term financial success.



Member Duties : The AmeriCorps member will serve alongside experienced program staff to provide individualized support to refugee and immigrant families as they navigate their new communities. The member will provide 1-on-1 support to address monthly household budgets, connections to appropriate financial resources and others such as clothing or food banks to address financial gaps, and specific concerns causing financial hardship to recently arrived refugee and immigrant families. The member will connect with subject matter experts such as volunteers and financial institutions to facilitate group learning opportunities on banking basics, loans, credit, taxes, and other essential topics to promote long-term financial literacy.
