2023 Youth Robotics/STEM Position Juneau Job at AmeriCorps
The guiding objective of the Juneau Economic Development Council (JEDC)/STEM AK initiative is to increase student interest and competencies in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and, Math fields. The program is organized around three strategies; (1) facilitate the professional development of teachers, (2) offer STEM enrichment activities to students; and (3) participate in outreach to build public awareness and support. Our work is guided by a commitment to hands-on, engaged learning that links students to real-world opportunities and challenges in an environment of high expectations and discovery. The AmeriCorps member will support robotics and other STEM activities statewide for grades K-12 and organizes activities to broaden the reach of the current STEM program.
Member Duties : Members will work with parent-teacher organizations to organize STEM activities such as the Family Science Night at each elementary school in Juneau. Members will recruit, train, and support robotics coaches in schools statewide with a focus on K-8 and will work with STEM Manager to provide training and support to robotics teams and coaches. Members will coordinate with public libraries to host robotics/STEM activities for grades K-3. Members will serve as Event Managers for the FIRST LEGO League Tournament. Members will collaborate to help Juneau schools integrate STEM activities effectively. Members will develop activities at community events and train community volunteers and students to provide activities. Members will recruit underrepresented students to participate in STEM summer camps and activities.
