Function/Scope:
Youth Empowerment Project (YEP) is a vibrant out of school program aimed at holistically supporting Sharpsburg youth, kindergarten through college/adulthood. The YEP Youth Coordinator will assist in developing and implementing various educational and recreational activities for youth who participate in the Youth Empowerment Project after school and over the summer. Youth served range in age from 6-18. The Coordinator’s primary function will be to facilitate discussions with the students, monitoring and playing games with the youth, and assisting with summer camp activities. The intent of YEP is to strengthen childhood and adolescent development and lifelong success of Sharpsburg youth.
Responsibilities include (but are not necessarily limited to):

  • Assist in developing, coordinating, and facilitating educational and recreational programs for youth age 6-18, including afterschool, summer and weekend programs, based on the needs and interests of participants
  • Coordinate/collaborate with other organizations serving teens such as Cooper-Siegel Community Library – Sharpsburg Branch, Sharpsburg Family Worship Center and Ketchup City.
  • Reach teens where they are with a non-judgmental approach – both at YEP and in the community. Must be able to accept the youth for who they are no matter the circumstances.
  • Offer programs including but not limited to self-care/social-emotional skills, career/college readiness, art, STEAM, etc.
  • Mentor and support youth, including LGBTQ+
  • Ensure the needs of the youth at YEP are met
  • Assist with preparing and serving food and snacks
  • Maintain daily sign-in sheets
  • Prepare a monthly activity calendar
  • Maintain participant and staff confidentiality in compliance with administrative policies and procedures.
  • Attend and participate in regularly scheduled staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Ensure Covid-19 protocols are followed (social distancing, handwashing, temperature taking, and make sure that youth are wearing face-masks are properly.
  • Other administrative duties as assigned

  • Openly support leadership and promote initiatives and changes.
