As the Wyss Campus Facility Manager you will oversee all operations and management of the 240 acre year-round, residential Wyss Wilderness Medicine Campus overseeing permanent and seasonal staff. In this role you will maintain the campus to provide a safe, functional, clean, welcoming and comfortable environment for students and instructors and ensure compliance with all applicable codes and regulations. You will be responsible for developing strategic plans for long-term use of the campus property.

Your Potential for Impact

  • Manage risk by maintaining facility in safe, secure, functional order year-round
  • Responsible for proper preventative and remedial maintenance of Wyss Wilderness Medicine Campus buildings, fixtures, appliances, tools, and vehicles
  • Supervise Wyss Wilderness Medicine Campus staff with responsibility for hiring, training, annual performance reviews, firing, and performance coaching
  • Responsible for negotiating private services contracts and overseeing outside contractors
  • Develop multi-year vision for campus including management of Sportsman’s access, conservation easement, intentional trail system, and agricultural use practices
  • Work collaboratively with Wilderness Medicine Director team to establish expectations for campus operation
  • Oversee preventative facility maintenance, repairs, services checks, renovations, new construction and safety inspections
  • Develop annual campus operating budget in collaboration with the Wilderness Medicine Associate Director to include programmatic usage, personnel, maintenance, construction projects and intermediate and long-term asset requests
  • Interact with external audiences and land management agencies
  • Perform administrative duties including the development of policies, purchasing, bookkeeping and requisitions that affect the operation of the campus
  • Respond to emergencies including maintenance emergencies and student or instructor emergencies; includes after hours response
  • Maintain site security, enforce campus policies with user groups, and manage interactions with the general public and neighbors
  • Provide welcome, check in and check out, and orientation for facility users
  • Authority to requisition supplies and tools, and sign purchase orders.
  • Attend departmental meetings

Who Will Succeed in This Role

  • Strong written and oral communication and management skills required in the areas of staff supervision, human resources, logistics planning, event hosting, budget development, implementation and monitoring
  • Strong communication skills to facilitate relationships with students, land management agencies, neighbors and the public
  • Experience with physical plant design and construction, and a working knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, electrical and mechanical systems including HVAC systems
  • Must understand and comply with OSHA, relevant building and fire codes, public water supply and ADA regulations for commercial and public places
  • Must be able to utilize a variety of software and databases
  • Must be able to climb and work from a ladder, lift and carry up to 75 lbs., operate a variety of tools, equipment and vehicles
  • Must meet NOLS driving requirements and be able to obtain a NOLS 3D driving endorsement
  • Must maintain certification as a public water systems operator

Position Details

This is a full-time, year-round, benefitted position, with a starting salary of $47,000 at the Wyss Wilderness Medicine Campus, 13 miles south of Lander, WY. The Wyss Campus Facility Manager is required to live at the Wyss Campus. Housing is provided with the position; the salary is inclusive of this benefit.
