Your Opportunity

Join a Top 10 global design firm in our California Workplace Practice. Our California team stands as a leader in our practice for design and includes studios spanning Workplace, Healthcare, Hospitality, Civic, Retail, and Mixed-Use.

We are seeking a candidate to serve as a Principal and California Workplace Market Leader. The successful candidate will be a recognized leader in the workplace marketplace, and will possess knowledge and communication skills to grow our workplace design business. The position requires the ability to develop and nurture existing Stantec client relationships as well as acquire new client relationships. This role is primarily responsible for business development and service delivery, and will have project responsibilities including client management, project leadership, and technical guidance. In addition to the external development, we are looking for a leader to inspire our team, represent design, and reinforce the national brand of Stantec.

This individual will have reporting relationships to Global Workplace Leader and to California office leadership, along with working closely with regional Buildings leadership to implement a full strategic plan around the Workplace practice in California.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Workplace Design Team Management (10-20% Time Commitment)
  • Develop strategies for growth of the California workplace business.
  • Lead and manage the California Workplace team.
  • Collaborate with California leadership in pursuing Workplace and Office design opportunities and avoid potential client relationship conflicts.
  • Encourage cooperation, sharing of skills and workload among staff located in various business centers across the company and in other practice areas, where considered appropriate.
  • Serve as a local leader to inspire our team, represent design, and reinforce the national brand of Stantec.

Project Responsibilities (30% Time Commitment)

  • Serve as a seller-doer and be an essential part of a project team working on all phases of a design project from Programming and Schematic Design through Construction Administration.
  • Interface and advise client, manage staff, and assist with the review of technical documents to meet the needs of the project.
  • Enhance Stantec’s ability to win work during all aspects of a project’s lifecycle from planning, programming, design, construction documentation, contract administration through to project close-out.

Business Development (50-60% Time Commitment)

  • Leading in the identifying, winning, and hands-on involvement as Principal and senior leadership for Workplace and Office pursuits.
  • Increase Stantec’s industry profile through regular interaction with potential clients and industry associates as well as participating in industry organizations.
  • Develop and/or assist in defining overall team project pursuit plan and win strategy, including strategic proposal development for the group and coordinating a core group of interior design and architecture professionals to achieve business development and financial goals.
  • Work collaboratively with Marketing to secure new clients and new work, including the preparation of proposals, interviews, and presentations.
  • Participate in regularly scheduled Global Workplace Leadership meetings, supporting the overall growth of the Practice.
  • Participate in Global Workplace Practice initiatives as needed, supporting the overall growth of our business.
  • Participate in speaking engagements, blogs, social media posting, as subject matter expert to promote Stantec brand, and overall growth of our business.
  • Acts as an internal and external ambassador for the firm.

Strategic Responsibilities

  • Work closely with regional Buildings leadership to develop a strategic plan within Stantec’s Global Workplace practice area.
  • Identify and following through on key hires, major project and cross-regional pursuits including national client accounts.
  • Assist with the development annual business plan for the Workplace Market
  • Identify and develop existing and future leadership candidates and career development opportunities for staff within the Workplace Practice.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Strong business development skills, including significant experience building and maintaining productive relationships with a diverse client base.
  • Strong seller-doer capable of generating work and creating long-term relationships and delivering long-term value to clients for Stantec.
  • An entrepreneurial orientation with strong understanding of the business development challenges of a consulting services provider
  • Experience with responding to Requests for Proposals, Expression of Interests, and Statement of Qualifications.
  • Strong understanding of the California workplace market, industry trends and industry leaders.
  • Demonstrated technical skills on major projects.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and team building skills.
  • Excellent public speaking, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Active in your community including conference attendance/speaking engagements and/or active memberships in associations (such as board posts and committee memberships).

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Interior Design, or related field.
  • Professional registration as an Architect or Interior Designer.
  • 15 years of experience in business development and practice in the workplace market.
  • Experience in building and managing a workplace practice

Pay transparency laws require employers to provide the following information for positions that may be in the following jurisdiction(s):

Salary Range(s):

  • $96,800.00 - $145,200.00 (CA, CO locations only)

The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.

Benefits Summary: Full-time and part-time employees have access to medical, dental, and vision plans, a wellness program, health saving accounts, flexible spending accounts, 401(k) plan, employee stock purchase program, life and accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D) insurance, short-term/long-term disability plans, emergency travel benefits, tuition reimbursement, professional membership fee coverage and paid family leave. Employees will receive ten paid holidays in each calendar year. In addition, employees will be eligible to accrue vacation between 10 and 20 days per year and eligible for paid sick leave (and if more generous, in accordance with state and local law).

Temporary employees have access to 401(k) plans, employee stock purchase program, and paid leave, in accordance with state and local law.
