Chesapeake Light Craft is searching for a bright, energetic, small-boat enthusiast to join our Production team. The title/position we’re looking to fill is Woodshop Production Assistant. Outdoor enthusiasts who love paddling/rowing/sailing and are familiar with a table saw, woodworking equipment, sanding/fairing, epoxy/fiberglass, and minimal machine/preventative maintenance. Boatbuilding skills would be great, but not required. Please keep in mind, boating experience does not always necessarily make the best candidate for this position; We hire/inspire from the ground up…Paid training is provided.

The Woodshop Production Assistant is responsible for manufacturing kit components from raw and exotic materials in a safe, efficient and productive manner. Your milled wooden boat parts will be combined with CNC cut marine plywood parts to be packed and shipped globally. Consistency should be a key aspect of your work over a long period of time. Woodworking and carpentry skills are required, but training is provided for those who’ll need it.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Milling raw lumber into desired kit components and boat parts.
  • Maintaining machinery within the shop (basic maintenance).
  • Managing lumber and raw material inventories.
  • Assisting in other aspects of the production process.
  • Managing the production schedule efficiently (staying on a reasonable schedule)
  • Assisting with occasional boat shows and demos.
  • Taking pride in your work and enjoying yourself while doing it.

Chesapeake Light Craft is the world's largest boat-kit company. The work is challenging and fast-paced. You'll be expected to acquire a deep understanding and ownership of all our kits and their contents. As a member of our production team, you will be an integral part of what keeps our ship afloat, manufacturing boat kits that we ship all over the world.

Working hours are 8:30 – 5:00 including a break for lunch. This is an entry to mid-level position with room for advancement. Salary negotiable, and benefits include paid vacation, holidays, and sick leave; matching Simple IRA, boat and workshop privileges, and a collegial, dynamic work environment.

You should be able to lift up to 50+ pounds on your own. You will be in direct contact with customers and boatbuilding students from time to time, so an upbeat personality is a must! A sincere willingness to help our customers build the boat of their dreams is essential at CLC. Occasional travel is possible to beautiful seaside locations to help out with boat shows (expenses paid).
