WIRE MILL TECHNICIAN

Position Summary/Objective

This position performs essential functions of the wire mill and conductor manufacture in a team environment. A person thriving in this position feels a strong responsibility for getting the machines to run with the highest quality and most productively possible. Individuals will be responsible for strong collaboration to achieve the goals of the team and improve work methods and products. Flexibility and a team approach toward accomplishing the job, which could include rod breakdown, multi-wire drawing, bunching, cabling, or bobbin winding.

Essential Functions

  • Work directly with machinery within the department while following setup, running, and quality testing procedures.
  • Observe the ongoing process to ensure that machine is operating properly; make adjustments or stop machine when problems occur and make adjustments as necessary.
  • Perform parts inspection as listed on the documented procedures and enter data into a computerized collection system.
  • Regular communication with supervisor, other operators, and other shifts to ensure operational objectives are met.
  • Provide continuous improvement ideas for Safety, On-Time Delivery, Quality, Cost Reduction and Efficiency.
  • Support and comply with company policies and procedures as applicable.
  • Demonstrate good housekeeping ability maintaining work area.
  • Work in accordance with the safety and environmental rules
  • Safely handle materials of various sorts.
  • Perform any additional duties as assigned by Supervisor.
  • Participate in the improvement of work conditions and procedures
  • Work with other members of the organization to achieve company goals

Cross Training

  • Will require to cross-train on equipment within your identified workgroup at the Wire Mill operations
  • Once trained in more complex jobs, may be required to fill the position in the event of absence or vacancy
  • Will required to rotate on a set frequency within your workgroup to maintain skill proficiency

Safety

  • Working safely is a condition of employment
  • Follow all safety procedures and rules
  • Properly wear all safety PPE
  • Review and know all job Hazard Analyses for proper job sequence and hazards associated with the job assigned to do
  • Maintain al work areas to 5S standards
  • Follow all company environmental rules, procedures and handle all materials in a manner designed to minimize environmental impact

Competencies

  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Must be able lift/move up to 50 pounds without assistance
  • Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time
  • Basic math skills such as fractions and measurements (must read a ruler)
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment

None

Physical Demands

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds at times.
  • Use of hearing protection may be required

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

  • Manufacturing environment
  • Hearing protection, Safety Glasses and Anti-slip safety toed shoes required.
  • Work shift is scheduled as Monday-Friday 6am until 6pm or 6pm until 6am.
  • Weekend and overtime may be required.
  • Must be able to work in a hot and cold environment.

Travel

No travel is expected.

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Basic math skills such as fractions and measurements (must read a ruler)
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
