Under the direction of the Senior Member/Wellness Director/ Executive Director, the Wellness Coordinator assists with leading the center wellness staff members in all member connection and retention initiatives related to the wellness center and wellness programming. The Coordinator will assist with managing the day-to-day operations of health and wellness programs and wellness floor operations with a large emphasis on driving overall group exercise and group exercise penetration. This position provides day-to-day support for group exercise, healthy living programs, and youth conditioning programs, and group exercise staff; assisting the supervisor to develop these staff teams to provide the highest quality service and exceptional member experience for all. The coordinator will step in to work in ratio on the wellness floor when needed and have up to 90 days to build 15 hours of their own PT business. A strong focus is placed on driving a superior member experience, enhancing the membership connection/engagement, thereby leading to increasing member satisfaction and retention. This position employs a continuous improvement model to meet and/or exceed goals for satisfaction, budgeted revenue/expense goals.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Program Quality and Growth

  • Assists the Director/ Executive with focusing on implementing initiatives, best practices and the elevation of wellness programming:
    • This includes: group exercise, healthy living programs, youth conditioning programs, and direct leadership to group exercise staff members.

Membership Engagement and Retention

  • In partnership with the Director/Executive, increases member connection and commitment to YMCA programs and services ensuring the member experience is consistent, integrated and aligned to YMCA goals including:
    • Gathers data about member satisfaction and interests to ensure connection to programs, services, and other members.
    • Oversees new and returning member orientation to ensure effective onboarding to include wellness and program teams.
    • Implements relationship development strategies to increase membership engagement and retention.
    • Provides group exercise orientation with new members.

Wellness Center Operations

  • In partnership with the Director/Executive, provides leadership to wellness center operations and administration to ensure a best in class membership experience. This includes:
    • Ensuring that the wellness department is staffed appropriately and is meeting standards for member service and engagement.
    • Ensuring team is informed about center, program and other related information critical to member service and engagement.
    • Ensuring wellness staff’s time is approved accurately and in a timely manner.

Safety and Risk Management

  • Ensures all Tampa Y wellness standards and best practices are implemented and followed. Applies YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to best practices, emergency procedures, medical and disciplinary situations and child abuse prevention.
  • Ensures all wellness staff are properly trained and prepared for emergency situations. This includes implementing and following training requirements in addition to ensuring proper reporting of all incidents/accidents according to risk management procedures.
  • Ensures adherence to all YMCA policies and procedures regarding the safety, health and welfare of members, program participants, guests and staff.

Responsible for Leader on Duty shifts as needed by the center.

Education/ Experience Required:

  • BA/BS in exercise science or related field; or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Two to three years’ experience in the health and fitness field, with experience in teaching a variety of group exercise classes preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in wellness programming, with at least one year of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Ability to work a varied schedule including nights and weekends as needed.
  • Must understand how to build relationships and have strong interpersonal skills.
  • Have the ability to lead a strong staff team that is focused on creating a welcoming environment and providing a superior member experience for all members, at all times.
  • Must have a proven track record and a passion for exercise, nutrition, healthy living and helping others live a healthier lifestyle. Additional skills in developing small groups and personal training are needed.
  • Highly motivated with the consistent ability to meet/exceed goals.
  • Self-driven with the ability to set effective team and individual goals and take ownership for results.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and adapt to changing contexts and priorities.

Certifications/Trainings Required:

  • Current certification in personal training.
  • Must obtain within 30 days of employment and maintain current certifications in CPR/AED, First Aid
  • Maintain position-specific required certifications as stated in the training matrix.
  • Achieve YUSA Leader status within the first year and Team Leader status within two years.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • This position requires reliable transportation and willing to travel, if needed.
