Job Summary: Physical labor in a non-climate-controlled area (outside and inside). This labor includes but not limited to lifting, moving, pulling, reaching and sorting of scrap material. Must be physically fit for manual labor and possess the potential to operate production equipment such as a baler, sort table and mobile equipment.

Responsibilities of the Role:

Include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Sort, grade and process recyclable materials that Metal Exchange purchases. This will include learning the different alloys and/or grades of Aluminum, Brass, Stainless Steel and Copper. This sorting may be manual or with mobile equipment based on need. The use of hands tools such as rakes, shovels and banding equipment will be required.
  • Interface with suppliers to ensure safe unloading of incoming trucks and conduct proper grading of each grade of metal alloy. This will require verbal as well as visual communications to ensure each load is properly unloaded, moved to the correct storage location and accounted for.
  • Complete all paperwork on a timely basis, including daily work sheets and material identification tags.
  • Follows company rules, regulations and policies regarding work and safety practices. Must understand that the person most responsible for your own safety is yourself and you are empowered to stop work and get the supervisor if you feel unsafe. Must wear PPE required per JSA.
  • Maintains a neat and orderly work area including general housekeeping of the work area. Assists with general housekeeping of the Warehouse area.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    • Desired: A high School Diploma or GED is preferred but not required.

  • Must be eligible to work in the United States; visa sponsorships are not available
  • Language Skills
    • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English to an 8th grade level or above.
    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
    • Ability to write production tickets.
  • Mathematical Skills
    • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers.
  • Reasoning Ability
    • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Physical Requirements
    • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. The employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
    • The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms and climb or balance.
    • The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and be able to work from the different positions.
    • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Work Environment
    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, extreme heat and risk of trips and falls. The employee is also exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
