VYT-Franklin Grand Isle Bookmobile Job at AmeriCorps
PROGRAM: The VT Youth Tomorrow AmeriCorps VISTA Program supports initiatives helping low-income youth & families develop job skills & academic proficiency, build connection to their community, access health & mental health care, find housing, become food secure, and connect with essential services needed to transcend poverty, avoid unhealthy behaviors, reverse the impacts of COVID-19, and ultimately thrive. Website: www.vermontyouthamericorps.org SITE: Franklin Grand Isle Bookmobile promotes a lifelong love of learning & builds community connections. We serve folks of all ages in Franklin & Grand Isle Counties, and we strive to make those living in a vast rural community feel closer by connecting them to each other through stories, conversation, books, literacy activities, & fun. We go where children of all ages gather—homes, classrooms, & afterschool settings. Using a variety of formats & media, we strive for individuals to be thrilled with their choice to visit with us. The VISTA utilizes collaboration in early education, out-of-school time, & community organizations to promote the mission. There are significant differences among children in their language and literacy skills at school entry; these stem from many factors, including socioeconomic status, race, & gender. Research suggests that libraries increase literacy development for children & families. The VISTA promotes literacy in our region by creating sustainable revenue sources for the Bookmobile. The VISTA - (1) strengthens existing partnerships; (2) expands partnerships and establishes a solid volunteer base including a network of support for the Bookmobile; and (3) procures in-kind, cash, and grant donations to sustain and increase Bookmobile services. COVID-19: The VISTA focuses on connecting with and learning about the pre-existing and new needs presented by COVID-19 to our rural community. Location: Swanton, VT
